Issue #67 is out. I finally managed to buy a copy and am more confused than ever.

What. The. Fuck. is Sara Bryan on about? Her rage at Katchoo seems unprofessional and misplaced. After spending such intimate time with her, why does she still think Katchoo is part of the Parker killings? It doesn't make any sense.

She seems shocked that Katchoo's nude paintings of her were made public. What. The. Fuck. did she think Katchoo hired her for? Fun and games? She's angry enough about this to want revenge? Huh? She's so surprised at this--when Katchoo's working hand in hand with Carolyn Hobbs for an exhibition. Makes no sense. Though, wouldn't she have had to sign a release or something?

Some on the SiP Forum have made the interesting point that maybe Sara's fallen for Katchoo, and reacting badly to it. But again, we haven't seen any evidence to support this.

Randomly, I find myself wondering this: Sara Bryan's a natural blonde. I think I remember her dying her eyebrows to match, but these are nudes--what about body and pubic hair? They have her hair very dark.

Also, is she still dying her hair? If it's grown out this much, she'd have blonde roots. And you'd think if she's returning to normal duty, she'd either have her normal color restored or grow it out. Coloring maintenance is a total pain in the ass.

Hated the whole Keith Rankin crap. That line was so awful, I had to wince. "Rankin resisted the familiar urge to take Sara in his arms and throw away everything he'd worked for: his wife and family, his career with the bureau and his self-respect." Come on! Plotlines from bad romance novels, what? Seriously pissed me off. Totally unnecessary.

The bureau didn't know of Sara's indiscretion? Wtf does that mean? Did they not know she was posing nude? Or did she sleep with Katchoo? Though we've really seen no evidence of intimacy between them that I can recall.

Man, she's got issues with men. I mean, it's easy to see that a woman in the FBI might feel extra touchy about being treated as an equal. But her attitude is beginning to annoy me. Especially with Walsh. But then I love Walsh. And he's probably having fun messing with her head a bit, too.

Hrm. Walsh is happily married. I'm going to be fuming pissed if we ever see that he 'resisted the familiar urge to take Sara in his arms," or any such shit.

Not crazy about the prose pages at all. It was interesting to see inside Agent Bryan's head, but as [livejournal.com profile] brabble put it, "I used to think she was down to earth, now I think she's a psycho."

I was glad to see the time-warp of Lindsay Noel's rape explained. But something doesn't ring true. I don't think pining a rape on someone is supposed to be quite that easy.

  • Why pin it on Dumoni? She had plenty of other ways to weasel her way into Katchoo's life (like Casey at the gym and then get her to recommend her services as a therapist to Francie). Why go through a trial that would surely result in scrutiny into HER life. At that point there wouldn't be any physical evidence. Nothing but her word against his.

  • The rape happened years ago and she was able to make it stick? Without an extensive background check on her past? Since she was living as Olivia Dominguez at that time, how'd she sneak past that gap?

  • And I don't think of Parker girls having families to back them up, so this woman shows up out of no where and says, "This guy raped me brutally YEARS ago (when I was being a D.U.C.K. in Miami)." and he gets a conviction?

  • Sure he hit on Monica (who beat the crap out of him), but his reaction of "Hey, I didn't rape anyone!" seemed genuine. And there's a line between trying to get fresh with an aggressive body builder (and getting spanked for it) and raping someone. Is that everr clarified--how far he tried to go with Monica? I need to re-read that issue.

  • Even if he tried to attack Monica, from my limited legal experience (Law & Order), I didn't think that would be admissible into the Lindsay Noel case. They're always having trouble with that stuff.

  • Sure Lindsay Noel is dead, but as she killed her husband and all of his body guards and set their home on fire, and then was found in that hotel room with a gun and a gas can--obviously up to no good. I don't know why Sara's so rabidly protective of her. It's like being outraged that a drug king pin got shot while trying to kill another drug king pin.

  • What was Sara looking for in the post-mortem, and what did she find in that burnt-to-a-crisp corpse?

The whole Freddie - Bachelor Lawyer scenes bored me to tears. Hated all the fine print crap. I like some of his silly stuff (The Xena Issue, You're A Loser, Freddie Femur) but rabidly hate some of it (the whole Snow White issue, grrrr). This was just bleh. Pointless, time-wasting filler.

Couldn't help but think of Linda Fiorentino from MIB during the morgue scenes. Hee. How does Freddie get women to date him? Constantly bemuses me. Though, we've yet to see if she actually does date him.

Also randomly, sometimes it irritates me that the covers have so little to do with the issue. This issue was largely about Sara Bryan. But we get Freddie kissing Dr. Stryker. Which doesn't happen. Sure, there's foreshadowing at the end, but it's not really what the issue is about. Ditto last issue with Francie on the cover, with a BLUE lily tattoo, and of course, no Francie in the issue. I love the cover art. It's usually beautiful or interesting, but I'd like it to be more relevant.

No detailed spoilers, but an intriguing comment from Terry Moore on his SiP Forum regarding the next couple of issues:

"Forget everything you've read about what is coming up in the next few issues. Diamond Previews, interviews, my forum comments... they're all out the window. I have rewritten everything to come. If you care anything about Francine and Katchoo and their families, SiP 68 and 69 are going to rock your world. For me, I'm walking on clouds. It's not like I've changed the SiP story, it's like I've finally found it.

I'm not going to visit the forum again until 69 is completed. I don't want to say anymore or answer any questions. I want to stay in this magic place and not think about who is or isn't reading. The love and support you've all expressed to me has meant a great deal to me. I hope the next two issues will return that love and give you something to smile about in a world that badly needs smiles."

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Need the next issue. NOW.
