ok so, see..
Aug. 14th, 2004 09:38 pmI went to Nordstrom. I returned the shoes. I avoided eye contact with the Sales Piranha. Then I foolishly meandered into the women's clothing section.
I got a really great deal on dress pants. Black dress pants. Which needed to replace my old, completely thrashed, unlined black pants that were torn in the crotch, that I lost a month ago. This is for interviews, etc. Valid purchase. AND on sale. Major sale. From $165 to $65. Not bad, eh? Needed to send them for alterations cause I'm not as tall as they are, though.
I wonder when I'll stop feeling guilty about it. It's so soft! And has pocketses! And is the perfect shade of charcoal! And it's very versatile. It can be dressy. Or casual. It's perfect.
We loves it. MINE! MINE! MINE!

But then I saw it. And I had to have it. I mean, it wasn't just desire, it was NEED. And maybe it looks unremarkable to the average person on the street. It's just a zip up, track jacket-y thing. Ralph Lauren. Not on sale. Eeek. And then I put it on. And it fits snugly. And it'll keep me warm all winter. And I don't have very many clothes, honest I don't. And Jeanne says that if you love something this much, it's okay to buy it even though it costs exactly the same amount as the damn shoes I just returned. |

Date: 2004-08-15 06:03 pm (UTC)Often, like with your sandals, the answer is a resounding No. Then I'm okay with not getting whatever-it-is, as much as I want it, because I know it won;t be worth it it in the long run. But sometimes -- like with this jacket -- I know that, yeah, I'll use the hell out of it and love it and hug it and make it all mine for a long time to come. So it's totally worth it.
Enjoy!
I love you tooooooo
