I can't believe it's only Saturday night.

The last couple of days have been jam packed with settling [livejournal.com profile] brabble in. Sarah arrived a day early and it was fabulous, because it was her birthday! I've never been able to spend her birthday with her, so this utterly ruled.

And because fate requires that too many things happen on one day, while nothing happens on others, I'd promised to take Judy to her doctor's appt on Thursday afternoon. Nothing horrible, but now that she and John are planning on having a baby, some appts are required. One of the best things about having a friendship that spans decades is seeing the changes our lives have taken over time. Who knew back in our sandbox days that we'd see each other through thick and thin (or 'sick and sin').

This visit was unfortunately a bit painful for Judy, so I was really glad to be there with her. Afterwards, she was still a bit tender, so I stayed with her and watched some tv. Sarah called while we were still at the hospital. And let me just say that I feel pretty lucky to have such wonderful, understanding friends. I felt terrible that I wasn't there to greet Sarah at her new place, but she understood and managed the move-in paperwork and started the process of settling into her new place. Judy, conversely, felt bad for keeping me from welcoming Sarah. How do people with catty, bitchy friends handle it?

I left Judy as soon as I could and zoomed over to Queen Anne. Sarah had beaten me to the punch and already gone to the grocery store, so that plan was out. A quick stop at the Metropolitan Market for a plant, some chocolate and a birthday card and I was set.

I couldn't stop squealing for at least the first twenty minutes. Sarah's here! She lives here now! And I had the added pleasure of hanging out with her mom, the coolest woman on earth. I hope to some day be as cool as Sarah's mom. I think it's accurate to say that I worship her.

We chatted for a bit and headed out for Sarah's birthday dinner at 5 Spot (highly recommend the Pineapple Upside Down cake you have to order at the start of your meal). It was great to catch up and hear about their trip across the states.

Afterwards, we set out for Target to buy the things you invariably need when you move to a new place. We shopped and then hung out at my place watching Kerry kicks Bush's ass in the debates. That was a lovely way to end the night.

Friday morning we set out early for a day at Ikea. It takes a day. Many of hundreds of dollars and cool items later, we watched a very capable staff member tie down the oversized items to the roof of their minivan. Glad we didn't have to do it ourselves. I desperately want the Tanja Brodyr quilt cover that they just came out with--that is sold out EVERYWHERE! Wah! It's deep red and has small deep red flowers embroidered on it. Want WANT! I called everywhere today and it's sold out *cries* I have to call back in two weeks to see if they've manufactured more. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Back to Queen Anne and the rest of the day was spent assembling furniture with the help of an allen wrench and remarkably poorly detailed instructions. Exhausted, we dined at India Bistro and stopped at my place for my electric screwdriver (one of the best gifts ever, from [livejournal.com profile] trtle's dad back in our college days). Couldn't find it. Tore my flat apart looking for it. Grrr. GRRR. Where was it? In the trunk of my car. D'oh!! It was late by then and i just dropped Sarah and Deb back at her place.

Sarah went futon shopping this morning, and I watched Hobbes who'd had an unsettled night with some vomiting. Seeing that he was doing okay, I picked up some gyros and met Sarah and Deb back at their place to continue the joy of furniture assembly. We work really well together, which is nice. Did I mention how much I love Sarah's mom? Sarah is pretty damn handy with tools and I learned that hammering nails is rather cathartic. BAM BAM BAM!

Suddenly... this mass of random boxes was transformed into a rather lovely room. Sarah has exquisite taste and she's put together a really nice place for herself.

And as I mentioned earlier, everything has to happen the same weekend. So I'd received a call from my darling [livejournal.com profile] jeff_nw inviting me to have dinner with him, his partner Chris, some friends and his parents who were visiting from out of town. I was really touched to be invited. I love meeting the parents of people I'm crazy about. It's so cool to see what they're like, where they come from. I managed to restrain from throwing myself at their feet and thanking them for having one of the most exceptional people I've had the good luck to meet. Who says I don't have self control?

It's been wonderful getting to hang out with Chris some more, too. He's coming upon the last 8 months of a four year stretch of full time school/work. As I told him tonight, he is simply amazing. Also in attendance were Craig and Greg, a fantastic couple and just the sweetest guys ever. It's been so great getting to know them. There's a saying somewhere about being able to judge a man based on his friends. Well, Craig and Greg do Jeff justice. I love them.

Jeff, as always, picked a fantastic place for dinner--the Malay Satay House on 12th Ave S/Jackson. Really terrific food (the mango shrimp was particularly excellent). And his parents were adorable. They both asked all of us about our lives and what we did and how we met. They were so nice. It was really a pleasure to meet them. And Jeff? So cute with his parents. Soooo. Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute.

Dinner ended with hugs and kisses and promises to get together soon. I'm trying my best to get them all to come to Dudley Manlove Quartet's Halloween show. It looks like they might!!

And now I'm home early. Which is really nice. We have a full day of sight-seeing lined up for tomorrow. We haven't had a chance to show Deb around Seattle yet! I'm going to map out a full day's tour. It'll be nice to do something that doesn't involve hemorrhaging money or allen wrenches. It's supposed to be a beautiful day, so yay!!

Definitely going to bed early with a nice book and a snuggly cat.

Hope everyone else is having a great weekend!

UPDATE: Um. I'm not staying home. Jeff and Ellie just called and I'm off to meet them for drinks at Matador. Haven't seen enough of them lately so here's my chance! Yay!
