Oct. 18th, 2004 08:25 pmGot up early to work because I had a phone interview with the Company I Would Kill To Work For this afternoon. Even though the position isn't a perfect match, I was orgasmic at getting the interview.
Work was fine. Actually, better than fine because they've been frantically trying to find ways to use my exciting certification that they didn't have to pay for. So I'm editing a giant manual and I'm excited to keep those skills perky.
Hyperventilated for 20 minutes about the interview while Sarah made soothing comments and promises of ice cream after. The guy who called me was wonderful. Very down to earth and human and not at all HR-Robotic. We talked about the skills I had and the software coding experience I don't have. I was pretty direct about it, because as I told him, I don't want to get hired for a job I can't actually do. He was very effusive about the experience I do have. I never think of it as impressive, because it's just my life and the shit I did. But that's the one nice thing about this job search. Hearing all the praise for my varied technical skills. Would be even nicer if those skills landed me a cushy job, eh?
So finished interview, feeling pretty good about myself. And also about the answers I was able to give. Since you know, they made sense and weren't fucktarded mind-games like the last interview at the Company I Don't Want To Work For. And the nice guy said that he thought the interview went really well and that he hopes they'll be able to work something out because I seem like someone he'd like to work with.
Yay, validation! Again, even more yay if I get a job there. Want.
Then Sarah came over and we hauled our asses to Greenlake for some much needed outdoorsyness. We bundled up like crazy, because fucking hell it's getting cold out there! It's exciting right now because it's a delightful change from summer heatstroke, but eventually I'll be whining nonstop about how cold my feet are. Anyhow. Yay ice cream. Ice cream, and walking, and cooing at the technicolor evidence of fall around us. We have to go back with a camera because, goddamn. Pretty.
Stopped on the way home at Gorditos for massive burritos and then to Fred Meyer to pick up some DVD-Rs for Sarah. I lunged at a copy of Monsters, Inc. since my brother stole my copy. Bastard. Then, Sarah found me gaping at the shelves. She asked why I was having an orgasm. I soundlessly reached out to stroke Without A Trace - The Complete First Season. Mowr. It was $50. Sarah pointed out I couldn't buy it because it was $50. I sadly nodded and continued helplessly pawing, ready to leave it and my heart behind. Suddenly and rather unexpectedly, Sarah snatched up a copy and strode toward the register, commenting that she, however, could. For my birthday. I chased after her, babbling and naysaying, but she's um stronger than I am and can beat me up.
I also can't have it until my actual birthday. WHINE. But omfg. First Season. Without a Trace. *dies of excitement*
We came home, scarfed down burritos while watching bits of Alias. Then commenced with the joy of Dead Like Me. We're about 5 episodes in and it's hilarious. I love George. That was a lot of fun. We also decided that Mo's scarf is almost fucking done. I'm going to finish the last 10 rows of yellow and then fringe both ends. And it'll be done. Dear god it's taken half a year. It is the gayest thing ever. No, not using gay as pejorative, but as in gay pride. It's a rainbow thing. It cracks me up. I want to keep it and wear it to the next Pride parade. But Mo would kill me. Oh well.
I so need to clean my flat. Dear god. I wish I could twitch my nose ala Bewitched and just have it taken care of. Maybe tomorrow. Tomorrow, as far as I understand, Amanda returns from her honeymoon. And the step-aerobic ass-kicking will continue. Also going to try this ski conditioning thing with Ellie on Wednesday. Sounds excruciating. Can't wait.
In other exciting news, Keira Knightly to star as Elizabeth Bennet in a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Thanks to
dominicflandry for the tidbit!
Also, really need to send off resume to those tech editing places Elizabeth emailed me ages ago. Not sure why I'm holding back, except I don't want to be a contracted worker. I want to be a full-time, be-perked employee. So we'll see. That's for tomorrow.
