...but a wonderful one.

Judy picked me up around 11am. This meant I got some laundry done and dealt with bills in the morning. We drove out to Auburn Supermall. It was awesome. Judy's an experienced shopper and knows me well enough to circumvent my bad habits.

Bad Habit #1: refusal to wear any color that isn't black, charcoal or navy
Bad Habit #2: insistence on wearing giant tent-like garments because it's easier to hide

She flatly refused to let me have anything too-big. She ripped a pair of charcoal grey slacks out of my hands because they were a size too big. Meh. I'm going to have to see if I can hunt down a smaller version because I loved them. We bought some work clothes and also a few casual tees from Old Navy. I love my new grownup clothes, but they're terrifying. I've lived in tees and comfy sweaters and jeans for a very, very, very long time. Time to admit that I'm over 30 and attempting to be a professional. And goddamn your bad influence, [livejournal.com profile] euphrasie. I somehow ended up buying a fucking pink sweater. It makes me feel so girly that I was afraid I was going to burst out singing "I feel pretty! And witty! And briiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!" and I had to run back into the dressing room and hide from a delighted Judy. Among the blacks and greys and blues are also red and tan and brown and white. And a hint of orange.

I also finally bought some gloves and scarves and as exhausting as the afternoon was, it was worth it.

We drove all the way north to Northgate Mall and took care of some errands at Best Buy and Target. I was finally able to exchange the headphones-with-the-missing-piece for a new set and Judy bought a wireless-something for their TiVo (*drool*). We stopped by Lenscrafters and picked up the new glasses Sarah helped me pick out. Judy really likes them, and so do I. But they're going to take some getting used to. Ultimately I bought them because there is a 30-day return policy and if I decide they really aren't me--back they go.

Next, we hustled down to Fremont. Judy went to step aerobics, and I went to finally, FINALLY get my haircut. Ultimately didn't get it cut as short as I'd planned, and I'm pretty happy with it. Between the clothes, glasses, and haircut, I feel very Sliding-Doors-y.

I walked over to SM&B to meet Judy and we went to a lovely dinner at Palermo on Capitol Hill. Jeff and Chris had given me an insanely generous gift certificate for my birthday and we indulged ourselves with pasta and pizza. It was delicious. And the waiter was very cute with a Welsh accent.

Judy drove me home. I finally cleaned out one dresser drawer of items I haven't worn in 3 years and will never wear, and unpacked my new exciting clothes.

I think... I might... actually ... have.. um... outfits.

*shrieking and running around*

My hair looked a lot worse
than this picture managed
to capture, tragically.

It's easier to hold my neck upright now because I
don't have 60 pounds of hair weighing me down.

I worry that the hair/glasses make me look older. But even if they do, I think I'm okay with it because at least I don't look like a slovenly whelp.

Yay for piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink!!!!!!

I totally get the clothes thing. For some reason, even though 16s are too big, I always buy them and then my pants fall down. I want to wear a 14, but I kind of like to hide in big baggy 16s too.

I am with you in the pre-shopping state though. My hair is overgrown and needs a dye, my eyebrows are yeti, my clothes are so old they are beginning to fall apart, and I have no closed toe shoes except for athletic shoes! Bleck :(

Okay, to be honest...

I have to know. Why is it a supermall? I was just there and it wasn't all that super.

P.S. I forgot to say (because I am self-centered like that) how cute your hair and glasses are!! Love them both!

I think part of it is the size, but also... I always manage to find amazingly cheap deals there at good stores. Like $150 for a really nice pair of slacks, 3 sweaters, a shirt-jacket-y thing and two button downs. That's pretty super to me!

What on earth were you doing all the way south in Auburn? :)

heh. I was staying in Lakewood! I think that's further south, even, than Auburn. B works in Auburn actually. We went to see a movie at that mall...

Bigger clothes feel safer :)

And man, it sucks, doesn't it? When is your make-over turn?

And ooo Nordstrom Rack has great shoe deals! It's been awhile since I got mine, but they had great closed-shoe variety and reasonable prices!

I know, I know. I'm a mall snob. It can't be helped. :) I miss Seattle already though.

I. Love. That. Movie. I love that part when she gets the makeover, though I don't think I could get my hair done that short. Great haircut and glasses!

I know what you mean about pink, too. My mom gave me a pink sweater for Christmas, and at first I was like "pink? a girly girl color?" - but I love it! It makes my face look rosey.

And then you deleted your reply! :) I was all set to say why.

I just think it's ironic when people call something "Super" or "Ultimate" when it's just kinda normal. You know? It just seemed like there was a whole lot of fanfare for a pretty normalish mall. But you're right, good deals are Super. And maybe that's why. ;)

It's my sarcasm, really.

But yay for outfits!!!!

New hair + glasses = cute!

I'm gonna have to do all that professionalization stuff soon, too. I don't have anybody here in Philly to help me with my complete lack of fashion sense, though...

I was worried that it looked like I was attacking you or being belligerent about it. :)

And that's a fair enough reason. I do think it's pretty big for the malls we have around here.

And yeah---totally yay for good deals and outfits! :)

Thanks!

It's one of my all time favorite girly-comfort movies :)

I actually had my hair chopped off almost that short because of the movie, but yeah, the makeover part was awesome!

And that's exactly why I ultimately bought it. I felt so pink cheeked and *whisper* pretty!

Thanks, Pam!

I was dreading it a little, or at least being resistant, but it turned out to be kind of fun. Good luck with it!

I cut my hair short in response to seeing French Kiss starring the one, the only, Meg Ryan. I loved her hair in that movie. I did it right before high school graduation. It turned out okay, I guess, but it took ages to grow out. I think I recall hanging a piece of paper on my wall at the time that had "I'm never cutting my hair again" written over and over.

I think I should wear my pink sweater to my Grants class tomorrow.... I'm so not in the mood to be back in class already... I need something to get me through it. Perhaps pink will do the trick. I feel inspired to paint my nails pink now too... though that might be going overboard.

I LOVED HER HAIR IN THAT MOVIE! *ahem*

Also I just loved that movie. Guilty pleasures.

I think you should wear your pink sweater, too! Sometimes it just takes a little help to get through the day :)

And I don't think pink nails are wrong at all. For some reason, I'm much more tolerant of color for nails than with clothing.

I think I need to paint my nails. I usually don't because it always comes off (my nails repel colored nail polish), so if I do wear it I'll wear clear. Toes can be colored though. I think I may need to do some girly grooming rituals tonight... it's so dreary here on Cape Cod (Cape Cod winters are often dreary, gray, and don't have enough snow to make it worthwhile).

Love the hair...and you should KEEP the glasses (and you should WEAR the pink..owning something with color isn't enough)

Thanks!
