Huh. And I thought the ebay imaginary girlfriend auctions were bad.

Snippets from this week's Harper's Weekly:

"Bush defended his decision to conquer Iraq, and although he admitted that his stated reason for invading was false, he also suggested that weapons of mass destruction might still be found."

Sure. Someday. Let's invest another few billion. They're bound to come up SOMEDAY.

"Secretary of State Colin Powell said that he might not have supported the invasion of Iraq if he had known that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction; within a few days he corrected himself and affirmed that the president had made the right decision no matter what the facts really were."

Can you say ass-monkey? I knew you could.

1. Jeremy Northam is always hot. Yes, even in Happy Texas. He appears in a Q&A session on the Gosford Park dvd where he looks very just-shagged-n-rumpled and very much like he needs to get back into my bed from which he will never escape again.

2. Holy fuck. I've seen this movie like 5000 times and somehow didn't catch the fact that Frank Churchill is played by Ewan McGregor. How the hell did I not catch that? Must be the huge shaggy blonde wig and lack of close-ups. No, I don't particularly fancy him, but I like him well enough as a bright eyed bushy tailed romantic lead.

3. Ooo it's the mom from Bend it Like Beckham. I hadn't made the connection to her as Mrs. Elton.

4. Watching this type of movie, with these types of gowns, makes me immediately want to get breast reduction surgery. How much easier is life for A cuppers?

5. Every time Emma snaps at Mrs. Bates in the picnic scene I just want to hide under the bed. Soooo wrong.

6. I feel dirty somehow that I prefer the Gwyneth Paltrow version of this movie to the BBC production. But I can't help it. And it's really for the shallow reason that this version is prettier and Emma is less unpleasant here.

7. "After all we know nothing of her parents! They could be pirates!"
