Holy fuck it's cold here tonight.

I love Alan Lee so much. My affections are officially on sale for hardback versions of LotR with his illustrations.

Started my re-read of Fellowship of the Rings. Really drinking in the writing this time instead of desperately churning through it. This passage, regarding Hobbits, reminded me of something someone once said about furniture.

"All Hobbits had originally lived in holes in the ground, or so they believed, and in such dwellings they still felt most at home; but in the course of time they had been obliged to adopt other forms of abode. Actually in the Shire in Bilbo's days it was, as a rule, only the richest and poorest Hobbits that maintained the old custom. The poorest went on living in burrows of the most primitive kind, mere holes indeed, with only one window or none; while the well-to-do still constructed more more luxurious versions of the simple diggings of old."

Someone once mentioned that it was only the very rich or very poor who would have mismatched, eclectic furnishings. The very rich would have heirlooms passed on, antiques and such. The poor would have hand-me-downs and things bought at thrift shops. Anyhow. I thought that was funny.

New SiP possibly coming out tomorrow. Issue #70. Really hoping it's good. From what I dimly recall, it's the Return of David. I love David.

I am addicted to Spider Solitare, but would like to share that spiders themselves are revolting. Just watched the Shelob segment of the Appendices. Ick.

Also, loving the new Trillian with built-in Wikipedia. Impress all your friends. )
