Mmmmm winter break.
Dec. 23rd, 2003 05:17 pmPost work decided to pour myself a nice tall glass of raspberry lemonade and burrow under blankets in front of the telly. I had my ps2 controller in hand when I spied some hot men in short skirty-things and paused. A & E - Helen of Troy. Intriguing. I watched for a bit, noted both John Rhys-Davies and Rufus Sewell (he of the smoldering fun in Dangerous Beauty). I started looking things up. What did we ever do before IMDB?
This is apparently a miniseries from earlier this year. I never caught it because I always forget that I have cable. Whoever reviewed it at IMDB hated it, but despite whatever inaccuracies exist (which I'm sure I wouldn't catch since my knowledge of Greek history is pathetic), I enjoyed the bits I saw. Part II airs tomorrow at the same time, so hopefully I'll remember it.
Of course it reminded me that Greek history is freaking fascinating and I spent an hour at the Pantheon reading up on all the connected players. Makes me feel I ought to brush up on my Bulfinch.
Speaking of legends and mythology - the King Arthur's preview looks good. Devastated about Clive Owen's hair (not everyone can carry off curls) but will persevere and try to understand that even beautiful people must suffer unfortunate hair for their art.

This will at least motivate me to finally read Mists of Avalon, which I'm constantly told is fabulous beyond words.
Of course first I must finish reading Affinity by Sarah Waters for my bookclub thing on the 4th. Setting a relatively easy goal of 30 pages a day starting today. Which I should go do now.
