The main reason I switched from Saturday to Sunday to visit the fam was pure exhaustion. The unfortunate side of this was that J and S had cleared their schedules for Saturday not Sunday. But since this was an Amy-visit, not a family-visit, they understood.

After packing my bags at Amy's, we went for a brief visit with my brother and nephews. S unfortunately had to work so I didn't get to see her.

The kids? Man, these kids get more and more adorable each time I see them. BigA is 5 and knows me pretty well, judging from the tacklehug. He let me swing him around and smooch his face until I was good and satisfied. Then we ran off to see LittleA, going on 3 this July. Little A wasn't entirely sure about me. He knows me, but we go too long between visits and so he was cautious. Smart kid. But soon, soon there was howling protest if I set him down. We played some games, and mostly there was pouncing and tickling. God, they're so freaking adorable. I really really miss them. That's the #1 bad thing about being away from the Bay Area. I hate not seeing them grow up on a week-to-week basis.

By the time I left, they were both pretty upset. I felt terrible I hadn't spent a night there, but I'm going to make it up by returning soon. Before I left I had coached them both on the importance of repeatedly saying, "Let's go visit Seattle!"

As always, it was great to see my big brother. It drives my sister-in-law crazy, but we show our affection through obnoxious banter. Amy and I hurried to the airport, the flight was only a few minutes delayed. The gate agents: still barely civil. Whatever.

I was blissfully able to sleep on the plane. And Jeff The Magnificent was waiting for me when I got off. I tackled him, babbled about the horror of my flight, the good and bad details of the weekend and I can't say enough how sweet it was to be home.

I'd say I wasn't going to be traveling again soon, but I need to get down to LA for my cousin's graduation party, to Las Vegas for Amy's wedding and the Bay Area again soon to do a family trip. Also a big snow-cabin trip in December with the entire clan. In between all that I have incoming visitors from San Diego and ...hi, FINLAND (woo woo woo!).

It's going to be a busy summer. Hopefully work will calm down enough to let me have a life again. Is it Friday yet?

This concludes our series: Cat Goes to Oakland and Writes a LOT about It.

Alaska Airlines.

Last night, the Guy I Can't Seem to Stop Seeing After Ten Years Although Every Time We Get Back Together It Ends Up Failing Miserably (GICSSSATYAETWGBTIEUFM for short) got on a plane from Seattle to Phoenix on Alaska Airlines.

Everything you went through (well, except the destination change, as there's no other airport that he could fly into) happened to him. At about midnight, I read him your Alaska Airlines rant and he and I laughed so much we were crying. Seriously, it was like you were both on the same flight. They switched gates on him about six times, and planes twice...he got 2 Unhappy Meal Kits. No flight credits other than the coupons. And he got in at 4:45 this morning.

I really can't wait to fly Alaska for my rewards travel.

Sigh.

Dude, that just sucks all around. Alaska Airlines is clearly going down.

You have to wonder about an airline that puts prayer cards on its food trays. I mean, hello? I'm not saying religion is bad but I don't want some New Testament stuff under my breakfast quiche. That's all I'm saying.

Way to not be in touch with the times.

Well, I think religion is bad. But I'm also feeling peeved and unreasonable today.

But, I've never heard of them putting prayer cards on food trays. That's supremely creepy.

I paid the $50 to upgrade to first class on the way up to my roommates' wedding (they got married in Portland about a month ago).

They put these little cards - playing card size - on the trays for food in first class. They have a "serene" picture of mountains or trees or Alaska wilderness or whatever along with a quote from the Bible.

It's creepy. Or maybe just crappy. "Pray with your meal! Or else God will smite you with delays!"

That is really... surreal. I've never heard of that. I wonder if it was just one person on that flight, like that pilot who had just come back from Christian-Camp and was creepily proselytizing during the flight.

Nope. Regular business practice. I've seen them before on other Alaska flights, but it's been years.

Weird, I've flown them a bunch and never seen that. For which I am now inordinately glad. Ick.
