a really good saturday
Jun. 19th, 2005 03:00 amHobbes has apparently decided that waking me up at 3:30am is acceptable. The fact that he has a bowl-ful of dry kibble isn't enough. He wants the wet stuff. Give him the wet stuff. His LIFE IS ALL ABOUT THE WET STUFF.
Ahem.
Anyhow. Hopefully my arm, also known as Cranky, The Kitty Launcher, will eventually dissuade him from this new habit.
Regardless, I was once able to sleep in super-late on weekends. But my whole pattern has shifted and I found myself annoyingly perky at 8am. Got up and did my French homework before my lesson at noon. It's going really well. She loaded me up with a lot of homework this week and I'm looking forward to finding the time to do it. She's going to be in France (damn her) for 3-weeks after my next lesson, so I'm trying to get to a point where I can do some meaningful studying on my own.
Then I finally dragged myself into the local mechanic shop for some overdue car tune-up stuff. Can I just say that I *heart* the Grease Monkey guys in Ballard? They are spectacular. Straight-shooting, polite, and reasonably priced. They show you the problematic items and don't just rattle incomprehensibly. Also, they left a carnation in my car. A long stemmed carnation. On the dash. I would have been completely bewildered if Sarah hadn't told me they did this when she got her car tuned up. They are so cute. And thank god for finally getting it done. I've been avoiding it for way too long. I still have to haul out to Dere Auto to have them run diagnostics on wtf is up with the on-again, off-again Check Engine light. But all the necessary fluids and filters are replaced. And the car shouldn't explode on my way to work now, so that's good.
Sarah called as I was finishing up with them. I haven't seen Sarah (except for a quick movie) in nearly two-months. Partly my own fault, between work busyness, both of us traveling, and completely shutting-down to recuperate after. I was just contemplating driving all the way out to Auburn for Kim's bbq (fun, but omfg Auburn = end of the universe). And it was already so much later than I should have been leaving for it. So when Sarah called, it was easier to just drive over to Jeff/Ellen's (where Sarah is once again house-sitting) and catch up. For hours. For until now. 2am.
We played with dogs, basked in the sun. We fired up the grill and had the most bizarrely fantastic hot dogs ever. We babbled exhaustively on a variety of things. We watched some Law & Order: SVU. We drove to Queen Anne because I wouldn't shut up about wanting an exciting beverage, only to find Jamba Juice closed (boo, hiss). Starbucks iced chai had to suffice, and we stopped at Sarah's for some stuff, and drove out to Scarecrow Video to look for Firefly, which was rented out (boo, hiss), back to my place to feed/inject Hobbsie. Pick up caffeine, season 1 of Scrubs and finally to Ellen/Jeff's where we watched nine episodes of Scrubs hilarity.
Tomorrow? I am sleeping in FOREVER. And then I should drag my butt out of here and spend a good part of the day finishing editing my current major project. Preferably at a charming cafe.
