You know, I'm not ready to do this meme myself. And I doubt I can make the people I want to hear from do it. But:

I'd love to see answers from [livejournal.com profile] brabble, [livejournal.com profile] neojima, and [livejournal.com profile] pinkminx.

List 5 reasons why you are a geek. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a geek you are! Then pick the 5 biggest geeks you know and have them do the meme.

Why on earth are you unwilling to do this meme yourself? You're frequently verbally loud and proud of your geekdom.

1. I love sci-fi. A lot. This includes having seen most episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation multiple times and occasionally being able to quote dialogue from the (admittedly bad) movie, Generations. But I also love X-Files, so I'm not just a nerd :b

2. I walk around quoting movies/TV shows constantly. People who don't catch the reference think I'm either insane or very witty, depending on the quotation. Actually, that response frequently holds for people who DO get the reference, as well. Most quoted: Buffy and When Harry Met Sally.

3. I am very mad at George Lucas for fucking up what could have been an awesome three (okay, six) movies.

4. I get annoyed at (and love to point out) inconsistancies and physics impossibilities in movies/TV shows. How I still love Star Trek, I don't know. At least they try? Heh.

5. If left to my own, unemployed devices, I will sit at my computer for 12+ hours a day and experiment with as many linux distros and CSS tricks as I can manage, until someone/thing forces me to leave my apartment.

To be honest, I rather think of myself as a geek-human liaison. I'm too sloppy and lazy to achieve True Geekdom, and my relationship with my computer isn't what it used to be due to my stupid working life. (MOST OF WHICH I HAVE TO SLUMBER THROUGH WITHOUT A COMPUTER!) Most online geek-o-meters disagree with this, though, so I'll play along.

Um.

1) I can and do pull impressive all-night-and-well-into-the-day marathons watching Babylon 5, anime, or whatever else I'm obsessed with at the time. And I will discuss the plot developments and technical inaccuracies at length after a sixteen hour marathon. Sadly I can't do this as much anymore, because Real Life keeps intervening.

2) My cola intake is, uh, impressive. Or used to be, because I've cut down and can survive with coffee (!) only nowadays.

3) I don't think it's possible to get bored of the internet, especially wikipedia. My eyes light up and I sigh happily every time I find a 'disputed' article. I have had an online journal for something like seven-eight years now. I was there when l33tspeak came around the first time. And, like milking a cow, I know how to use a search engine with the maximum of milk and the minimum of moo. (And I congratulate anyone who spots this quote for her good taste in literature.)

4) Back in the days when dinosaurs still walked the earth, I was obsessed with attending roleplaying conventions. I dressed up for them.

5) I buy science books, reference books and dictionaries because I think learning is interesting for its own sake. I can spend a day with a good dictionary. I'm not altogether sure this isn't just sad, however.

Of course I can also install hardware and can, with a little assistance, build a computer. I did mention 'assistance' though, so I'm not as geeky as I'd like to be. Waahhh.

And an exra which doesn't make me a geek, just perverted.

5) I keep thinking Kirk and Spock have more going on than meets the eye.

I was too lazy to do it yesterday *grin* I will probably do it tonight.

And really, I'm just frequently verbally loud.

Yay you did this, though! I was curious what you'd pick for your five thingies!

Dude. Totally.

And there's something to be said for maintaining continent-spanning, nearly decade-long friendships entirely in text. Though the last part will soon change. *grin*
