Just got back from a great catch-up breakfast with Judy at Portage Bay Cafe. David, a student at Judy's clinic, worships this place. So we decided to try it out and it was pretty damn good.

We took turns talking about Amy's wedding and Judy's trip to the Olympic Peninsula.

And then the conversation took a frightening turn. Judy pointed out that since the weather was nice, we were definitely going biking today. I haven't been on a bike since I was a kid. They terrify me. I like being in control of my own arms and legs and I'm not a fan of falling or crashing into things. Also, I'm a total klutz.

But the triathlon is around the corner. And one of the 'tri' is biking.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG I'm going to DIE! I am NOT going to be able to do this. I'm going to get on the bike and find that I can't ride and that my legs don't work or I'll fall and it'll really hurt and then I'll be a total baby and be mortified and then it'll turn out that I can't do the triathlon because I suck and am a loser and can't do this very simple thing that people who are in my way when I'm trying to drive to work do every day and I hate cyclists! And it's the longest part of the triathlon, too, and at the end so I have to dread it through two other challenges. And Judy says we have to jump into the lake at Kim's today, too so I can get used to lake swimming and ewww there're going to be bugs and peat moss and it'll be gross and icky and omgomgomgomgomgomgomg but I can't weasel out of this now since I've been yammering about it for fucking half a year. And and and and *hyperventilates*

So I need to go and just do it.

I'm also meeting Alexis at noon to get in another round of lifting. I can tell that I have new muscles that work because yesterday's swim was a piece of cake. I need to count laps (the triathlon is half a mile = 17 laps). I failed to count yesterday. But it was lovely getting back in the pool. Swimming feels so effortless to me. I'm going to go twice a week, Friday nights and Sunday mornings.

Shit. I need to get my stuff together and get out the door. Also, I need to pee. But you probably didn't need to know that.

How long is the biking section? (For that matter, how long are the swimming and footrace bits?)

One thing that I've been liking about biking (poet alert) is that there's a lot less straing on my legs and especially knees, since it's fluid motion.

It's a 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile footrace.

I'll post about the bike-part in detail soon, but I think once I get over the sheer terror of it and get a bit more used to it, I could really like it. I want to be kinder to my knees and the fluidity of it is appealing for sure!

The only thing I found really terrifying about bike riding is the cars. I just got a couple of maps that should help me find more friendly streets, but it's still scary.

That's the one accessory I still want -- some sort of rear-view mirror. Well, and a rack/bags.

I hear you loud and clear. There's no way I would bike anywhere near a car. My friends and I have found this lovely trail that is far-far away from cars.

A rear-view mirror would be nice, but I can almost see myself getting so distracted that I careen into something ahead!
