quiet sunday
Sep. 4th, 2005 11:52 pmMet up with Judy, John, Jen, Jeanne, KC and her adorable aunties for a late brunch at Salty's. It was very decadent, and I will dream for years to come of the 'chocolate fountain.'
Afterwards, I drove back home and hauled out boxes of filing that I've pretended didn't exist for the past couple of years and organized it all. It's one of those tasks that when you've got tons of piles of crap surrounding you, you suddenly are exhausted and think, "Fuck. I really don't want to do this anymore." But you can't stop because it's everywhere. And so I slogged through and it's actually done now. Hallelujah. It was a slow process, but satisfying in its own anal-retentive way.
The Shawshank Redemption was on tv. For a prison movie, in which so many tragic things happen, it's like eating a hot bowl of mashed potatoes. It's the ultimate comfort movie. I don't understand. Or maybe I do. Something about the way Morgan Freeman narrates it is redolent of the stories my grandmother would tell me. When that was over, I caught the end of Forest Gump, and then plugged in my old tape of Fried Green Tomatoes. It sustained me through the painstaking end of the filing process.
I still need to clean up my desk area and put away laundry and actually find a place for the filing cabinet that I like. And I'm sure as I clear the mess, I'll uncover more piles of things that need to be filed. But at the end of the day tomorrow, it should all be done.
I also need to do a load of work tomorrow in order to get paid for Labor Day, which I'm willing to do. If time/energy permits, I'd also really like to reformat my damn PC. I've been putting it off for too long and it's been running like crap. So we'll see how much actually gets done tomorrow.
It's been nice to have the time off from work. It's always weird going back and remembering what a normal week feels like. And I need to get my crap together because I leave on Friday for a long weekend in LA.
