verbicideWatching second season Upstairs, Downstairs. Hrm. Is Kirbridge gay? Was he only sleeping with Evelyn Larkin (or wtfever that woman's name was) to get free housing? Why the hell did he want to marry Elizabeth if he didn't want to sleep with her ever? He's from a fairly well off family, so it didn't appear to be just for the money. He did seem to care for her. Hrm.
As much as Miss Elizabeth's melodrama annoys me, my heart goes out to the poor girl. She's so utterly bewildered and god, who wouldn't be. I was startled to hear they hadn't shagged their way through Vienna. At first I thought Kirbridge just didn't want a baby, but he seems to find her utterly repulsive. And he didn't seem anything other than easy and lustful with Evelyn Larkin. And he did seem to be genuinely charmed by Lizzie. So wtf, mate? Aren't poets supposedly poets just to woo women? Aren't they all horny maniacs? He's disturbingly cute, though. You can apparently still buy posters of Ian Ogilvy posing seductively.
Am so utterly perplexed by his behavior. But then I generally am flummoxed by the actions of men everywhere, so perhaps this is not a great surprise.
