verbicideI was driving out to Pacific Place, and just musing on how awesome Jeff is and how much I missed him. His smiling face is such a daily part of my life. And just at that moment, the phone rang! It was Jeff! Calling from the road to Chicago! I burbled excitedly at him and we exchanged updates on our weekends. Yay! But our conversation was truncated as he approached a toll booth, and by the time he called back, I had both dropped my clutched phone down by my damn feet and entered the no-service zone of the underground garage. I was also running late to meet Melissa, and we had to bolt for our movie, so I missed his call-back. Wah!
I did manage to grab my first (and to-be-strictly-limited) egg nog latte of the season and Melissa and I headed for Loews.
I'm not sure it's for everyone, because it is twisted and weird, but hilariously so. The NY Times may have hated it, but too bad. I love Robert Downey Jr. I always just want to pat him on the head. I'm glad he's gotten his fucked up life together and is back making movies. Michelle Monaghan kept reminding me of Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy, so that was mildly distracting. Also Val Kilmer cracked me up. He does the best straight-man (*kneeslap*) ever in this turn as a gay private investigator.
The movie was unexpected and bizarre, but didn't take itself too seriously, which made it a lot of fun. I'm not a big fan of over-the-top violence, and I'm sorry to admit that the Kill Bill movies didn't do much for me. But this, this I really enjoyed.
Dinner with Judy's family was canceled as everyone has had too much food all weekend. And though I'm sorry I didn't get to hang out with them today, I'm ecstatic to have the night to myself early after two nights of too-much fun. I think I shall watch some Firefly and snuggle with my cat!
