random bits
Feb. 6th, 2006 08:19 amLast night, in the midst of crossing off things on my list, I remembered suddenly that I had a press release to get out first thing this morning. I almost forgot. And I had that chilled moment of, "OMG what if I forgot? ACK!!!" but then I observed that I hadn't forgotten, and calmed down.

When my alarm went off this morning and I lurched out of bed, Hobbes was at first perplexed, and sat at the foot of the bed blinking at me in confusion. It didn't take him long to realize that this was still an opportunity to eat early, and commenced with plaintive meowing.

I bought speakers for my iPod yesterday. It both frightens and amazes me how much that little piece of electronic frippery has come to rule my life. I really love these speakers, though. They're Altec Lansing portables. They're light, but output some nice quality sound. I set them up in my bedroom last night, because if I try to clean without music, I want to kill myself. I still need to setup playlists and stop using Shuffle. Because it's weird to hear Metallica, and then Bach, and then a portion of my French lesson.

I don't think I mentioned Jeff's birthday dinner last week. It was lovely. We all met at the Malay Satay Hut. Me and 11 burly, hairy guys who had no interest in my breasts. It was fabulous. I sat near two sets of Jeff's friends that I adore: Stan and Dan and Craig and Greg (compulsive need of gay men to date in rhyming pairs, great unexplained mystery of life). Great food, great company.

Hobbes must sit on my arms when I type. Must!! It doesn't matter that my arms are practically vibrating as I type, I think he views it as a soothing massage. Less endearing is that he uses my thigh as a leg up to the desk, and he has has claws extended when he launches himself. Ow.

My favorite pair of jeans has a hole on the inner thigh. I will still wear it, but perhaps no longer to work.
*
My new favorite breakfast is a slice of toasting bread (it's called that--never seen it before, but smaller than regular slices and um, firmer), with a tablespoon of peanut butter and some of Jeff's unbelievably delicious jam (plum or strawberry are my favorites). I used to not eat his jam very much because... and this is beyond idiotic... but because I have a limited supply. And eating it would diminish that supply. But um. Stupid. So I'm eating it for breakfast daily and it starts my day off with much joy.

I have decided that in honor of Sarah's sojourn to Alaska, I shall rent Northern Exposure. Which I never watched in its heyday.
*
Also, talking to Sarah last night, we realized that I've wanted a scanner for about 5 years but refused to buy one. I just did on Friday. It's a Canon Pixma All-in-one dealie and it may be more printer than I need, but surely will not be more printer than I can handle. Does nice photo printing, faxing, scanning. Also makes julienned fries!
*
Okay, must get dressed and go to work on time and continue this facade of being a functional grown-up.
