For days now I've been obsessed with taking a bath. I think it's because the tub in the hall bath is so enormous that it just seemed like the thing to do. And dammit sometimes I just want to be a girl.

But I kept forgetting bubble bath. And Lush products take a year to get here and I don't have that kind of patience. And since I've never really tried them, I didn't want to buy them, wait a month, and then be dissatisfied. Just GRR.

So tonight, while at the market, I picked up a terry-cloth covered bath pillow and some... bath confetti Bubble bath. To me a bath requires bubbles, so all the bath salts and bath oils and unguents do not appeal. There must be Doris Day level of bubbles.

I came home, had dinner, and filled the tub with hot hot hot water and threw in the confetti. It...bubbled. A bit. And turned the water grey. Hrm. I got in. The hot water felt nice. The tub is super wide, but I didn't realize that it's not particularly deep. So, not so great. I did have a fun girlie book with me. In my hot, grey water thing with rapidly diminishing bubbles. And as always, I was kind of bored. I read, but I was paranoid about dropping the book in the tub. It smelled okay but I mean, I was just sitting in a tub of hot water. Woo.

I suppose it's nice that my skin feels softer than if I'd just showered and briskly toweled off.

The funniest part turned out to be Hobbsie's wrath. He was furious. He sat next to the tub and let out the bitchiest meows in history. He would put his paws up on the edge, and stand, but realize that the ledge was narrow and on the other side was water. He would sit back down, give me a filthy look and yowl. Hee. He doesn't appreciate restricted access to moi. So I would meow back at him, and he would give off a pissy yowl, and well that part was kinda fun.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Or maybe this is just not going to happen and I need to let it go.

You know, you can order Lush products on Amazon... they come quickly.

It says they take 10-15 days!

Well, goodness. That is just not right!

There is always the Lush store :)

Believe it or not, I am not a bath person. I get in while the tub is filling and by the time my bath bomb or whatnot has dissolved and the tub is full, I am about ready to get out.

But, NOTHING beats the feeling of a post-Lush bath. It's not the bath so much as the sudden relaxation and the super soft skin afterwards.

Huh. That's kind of comforting, Jody.

Hrm Hrm Hrm.

There isn't a Lush store in WA, is there? I might be in Portland this weekend, and will make a point to stop in there. Any recommendations for Stuff I Must Get?

Lush takes forever because they often make your order when they get it! But they do take forever. And I can't tstify to any of their bath stuff, as I never got any since our tub can maybe fit a 4 month old..who's on the small side...

Aww, poor Hobbes! Hehehheh!

Oh my goodness, your cat is adorable.

With baths, I always worry that I will fall asleep for some reason. EEK! ;)

I do think you need better bubble bath. :) The rest of the experience might be enhanced by not having to lie around in grayish scum!

Poor Hobbes - that's hilarious. (And, hey, doesn't that mean he's off his little cat bed and back to harassing you for constant access to your cuddles??)

My old bathtub was like that--ick! Some day I want one of those insane, deep clawfoot tubs that could hold a horse. (Along with a more day-friendly power shower stall).

And hee--he was so put out! It was hysterical!

It's true! He's no longer obsessed! Though now he also loves to sit in the kitty-pie Jeanne knit for him (which I need to photograph and post.

But yes, he's back to his delightful, harassing ways :)

Yay! I'm glad to hear it, and relieved. See, he wasn't old, just being a cat and picking up a new bizarre habit. :)

The pitter patter of kitty feet.......

Oh yes, our new furry addition arrives tomorrow, and I'm so thrilled. I'm planning to post pictures, although I'm sure she won't be too amused as she'll be resting from her spay surgery, but I just have to share at least one pic.

:)

*Hugs* to Hobbes. :)

It's very true--he certainly wasn't an old cat last night. There was fire and indignation coming out of him last night!

You know, I have that kind of "conversation" with Zoe every time I try to cook, write, watch a movie, take a bath--basically, do anything in the apartment that doesn't involve her. (Is that like, uh, abnormal or something ...?)

I'm thinking that she needs a kitten to get worked up about (one way or another), so I'm not her Sole Source of Attention.

But a kitten would just be another distraction of your attention from her, non?

Hobbes is generally content if he can just jump into my lap whenever he feels like it :)

Yes, that's my quandary: would a new kitten provide her with a welcome distraction, or would she just be jealous?

Wish that Zoe were so easily pleased. Seems like she'd only be really happy if I stayed home and petted her all the time ...

I would love to get a kitten, but Hobbes would have a fit. His brother, Calvin (RIP) would have loved a little friend to groom and snuggle with, but Hobbes really hates other cats. He barely tolerated Calvin!

Have you ever seen how she reacts to other cats?

I only have one example to go on, & it's kind of hard to judge how well it would predict future reactions:

When I 1st brought Zoe home from the shelter, she was intensely hostile to the other cat already living there. Mind you, this was an adult male Maine Coon cat, about twice her size. He, however, was amazingly good-natured about it & managed to wear her down: he camped out at what seemed to be the outer edge of her personal space & just sat there looking dopey until she figured out he was harmless. (This is one of the many reasons why I think Puj was The Best Cat Ever ...) Within a year or so, they were grooming one another. She always liked me better, but his attention was welcome.

Now, you'd think a kitten would be less threatening in the first instance, and might even tug on her little heart strings a bit. But I dunno; she's so possessive about me--I'm like her mom, her dad, her lifeline ...

That's funny--it's very similar to what Jeff went through when he first introduced his giant cougar cat, Brutus, to his partner Chris' teeny, tiny black furball, Buffy. Buffy was not pleased. But Brutus wore her down.

I don't think I realized puj was a Maine Coon--they are such amazing cats!

Hobbes has no dignity. We lived for a brief time with my brother and sister in law in Port Orchard. My SIL had a giant grey tabby, and Hobbes was threatened, but also ...devoid of any sense. He would hover in front of Jake's face and yowl and hiss and carry on, while Gentle Jake tried to ignore him. Eventually Jake would reach out with a paw to swat Hobbes (deservedly) and Hobbes would turn ass-over-head scrambling away. Oh yes, was I ever proud.

But then this is Hobbes--who wanted to kill the teeny kittens my ex Ken and I once brought home, so he just hates all other cats, I think.
