There was going to be a dead cat in the house this morning. Around some ungodly hour of morning, Hobbes decided he was going to go into his litter box, meow, and kick sand around. For. Ever. And I wondered if it was because I only used one container of the litter crystals instead of two. So finally, I hauled myself out of bed and dumped in the second container. As he continued to kick around in there and yowl, I woke up a bit and froze, worried that maybe he was in actual distress. I rolled over, but he finished his business and pranced out. Grrr. I don't know why he needed the second container, it wasn't that shallow. Hiss. He's had lower sand levels of litter before, so I don't know.

Then he started yowling for breakfast and wet-nosing my head. Thus he was briefly Hobbsie the Amazing Flying Kitty. I was cranky and there was much profanity, which he ignored and kept coming back to just openly HOWL. God. I finally fed him to shut him up, and also stopped to send-off a quick e-mail to my boss to say I was feeling like crap and needed to come in late. My head was still throbbing (red wine? NEVER AGAIN) and I still felt vaguely nauseated, so I pounded down some advil again and went to bed. I'd bcc'd Jeff on the e-mail, so he called immediately to check in. Because he rules. We talked briefly, establishing that I was just taking it easy and not on the brink of death. Then I conked out again with Hobbes, who having had all his needs attended to, was content to cuddle peacefully. My desire to kill him had also abated.

But it's hard to stay in bed, even when I feel crappy, so I wandered around a bit, and had breakfast. I think I feel well enough to get dressed and go in now, at least. It's funny how clear the line is between "don't wanna go to work" and "legitimately need to not go into work" and so I need to get dressed now. I think I'm going to take my swim gear with me, because I'm fairly sure I'll feel well enough by 5:30 to at least do a reasonable number of laps. If not push myself to add on or do anything extra-painful (i.e. the hated kickboard). But then tonight, I'm going to bundle up in my comforter on the couch and fall asleep, drooling, by 8:30.

Oh my goodness. I hope Caribou doesn't do things like that. lol

Last night she was under the bed while we were sleeping, and one of the dogs peeked under at around 3a.m., which caused her to scatter, which in turn woke us up. EEP! ;) I was able to get back to sleep, but my goodness it was startling. lol ;)

I hope you'll feel better soon. :)

I'm tellin' you, Hobbes & Zoe must secretly come from the same litter. Because she pulls the same crap--yowling 'cuz the litter's not deep enough, yowling because she wants new kibble @ 5:00 A.M. We should enter them both in a clinical study to try to identify the brat gene ...

If I belived in reincarnation, I'd want to come back as a pampered cat. They have such easy damn lives.

To add insult to injury, Hobbes yowls even when he has kibble in his bowl, he just wants wet food, and then after I've fed His Majesty, he has a single mouthful and saunters off.

One of these days: pow, right in the kisser!

Heh--I can one-up that one: Zoe yowls for new kibble even when she still has some left in her bowl. She mostly just wants to feel like it's new, although it's not appreciably different from the kibble in the bag.

(Oddly, Zoe gets bored with wet food after one meal; she absolutely positively won't eat the same flavor of wet food two days in a row ...)

My revenge? Sometimes I pour out the kibble & then pour it back in. Same difference, to her--I think it's an attention thing.

And wet food is a once-in-awhile treat, so she never has the opportunity to get bored with a particular flavor.

How funny, your descriptions of her remind me more of Hobbsie's brother, Calvin. He was a complete attention whore. He couldn't bear to have people around who weren't focusing their undivided attention on him (particularly me). And if he noted his kibble bowl was a bit low, he would freak out and 'alert' me that a shortage was nigh.

He was such a pest, but I miss him so much. He was a shameless creature, but so damn cute!

Wet food used to be a treat in my household too, but my dad completely spoiled Hobbes when we lived with my folks for a spell, and now it's viewed as a daily demand. (Thanks, Dad.)

I'm surprised you didn't chuck him out a window by the end. :) This is why all of ours go in the basement - there'd be half-asleep felinicide otherwise!

If that's Zoe in your icon, she's gorgeous. I love the patterning!

Mine do the same thing with the hollering for fresh kibble, and I admit, sometimes I'm even worse than you - I just open the container, rattle kibbles around, and put the bowl back down.

And thanks, I do feel better.

I wasn't conscious enough to do him the violence he deserved. But he's very sweet to sleep with, so I can't lock him out of my room! :)

Well, I'm glad that the behaviors I put up with from Zoe aren't *completely* unique--misery loves company, you know. >:D

Yup. That's how she gets you. She was the prettiest, friendliest cat in the shelter, hands down. Then, just as soon as we got her out to the car, she started in with that banshee wail of hers, signifying her dissatisfaction (at that time, over being in the cat carrier). It's become very familiar, over the years: she's one of the prettier cats I've ever owned, but also hands-down the loudest. We're talking diva, here.

Are those your kitties in your icon?

Yeah, they're sneaky that way - wait until they've suckered you before they unleash the bizarre and annoying habits.

Yep, that's my 4; believe me, I know from banshee wailing, as one of 'em's a [half-]Siamese.
