This exchange is really a great description of why I left IT and why I would never return to it.

I never minded if people were clueless. But clueless and belligerent don't really work for me.

Unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that clueless and belligerant people find ways to make people miserable in *every* industry.

That's truly an impressive email string though... sheesh!

Ohhh, it brings me back to the good ol' days in tech support. Thank you for reminding me of the bad things about that job.

Eeeeegads.... That is so absolutely the type of conversation that I used to have with people while working for AT&T. Lawyers and Doctors who didn't have clue #1 about how to work voicemail would call up and threaten about how much of their valuable time I was taking, ya know, trying to help them learn something it only would have taken 4 minutes with the pamphlet they got with their service to learn... How do these people earn money???

I think this is a good example of how the belligerence makes the stupidity. If this guy would have just stopped and listened to what the CentOS guy was trying to say, instead of threatening to call the FBI, this whole thing could have been resolved a lot more quickly and amicably.

Yeah, I did tech support for too long. I still have nightmares.

Doctors were always the worst! They were so ridiculous. My group would pass them to me, because I found them so funny. They reminded me of my big brother (also a doctor), and so I had a blast beating them into submission.

Yeah, I don't understand the resistance to just listen to what the guy was saying in the first place. Sheesh.

OMG that's too funny... though I'm sure dealing with that guy must have been a total pain in the ass for poor Johnny.
