Jeff's parents are in town, and are the sweetest people ever. They had me over to enjoy a fantastic Italian feast the last time they were here, and this time around I wanted to invite them over to dinner. Jeff suggested I turn to my wannabe-roots and make Coq au Vin. (And no, Colicchio, I won't be using a fucking rooster.)
I wanted to do a dramatic 5-course meal, but Jeff reined me in so as to not freak his parents out.
So tonight's goals:
-grocery shop
-prep Coq au Vin
-prep potatoes and asparagus sides
-prep veggie cassoulet (for Jeff himself)
-also, start the process of tidying up the house for guests
Tomorrow:
-prep short crust pastry for tart aux pommes
-finish tart aux pommes
-start slow-cooking cassoulet
-set table
-finish tidying house
-prep and assemble salad
-finish mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus
-finish Coq au Vin
-slice and oven-warm baguette
And sometime on Saturday, I'm baking a cake for Miss Sarah. Her birthday is on Sunday and we're going to go out to The Pink Door to celebrate. There will also be copious hanging-out time in there with Henry. I can't post anything else about it on the off chance that she reads this before Sunday.
I think I shall bail from work early to aid in the accomplishment of said tasks.
Au revoir! Bonne week-end!
