success! (so far)
Sep. 29th, 2007 01:02 pmI think I was most apprehensive about the tarte aux pommes. Both because I've never made it before, and because I had such rotten luck with the tarte tatin. I almost bailed on the idea and switched to an almond cream/raspberry/chocolate tarte.
And while I haven't tasted it so far, it looks alright and it's so pretty!
I feel like I'm better able to make judgment calls and adjustments to recipes as I go. (This is not always true, of course.) But to even have that skill set develop a little bit makes me feel like my cooking has improved over the past few years.

Everything else seems to be running on track, so far. I made some modifications to the veggie cassoulet that I hope will improve it. No idea how the chicken's going to be until it's all done, and it doesn't even go into the oven until around 2:30.
I'm doing a load of laundry and going to go clean up the kitchen. I should also probably eat, but the one weird thing about cooking is that it kills my appetite entirely.
I wish I'd ignored Jeff and made gougeres. Boo.
