Sarah and her mom are coming over for dinner tonight, and I'm hanging out with Judy and Milo during the day, so I thought I would trick myself with DST and get up extra early to do Things.

I prepped some chicken breasts with rosemary, garlic, and lemon (juice and zest) for grilling tonight. We'll have them with some roasted potatoes and asparagus. I also baked this morning. Baking is so damn exciting. I've only recently really ventured out into more than just cookies. So today I made a spice cake with sticky, gooey, coconut pecan icing (like with German chocolate cake). It was really fun to do! And now it's all done (except the cake's still cooling, so I haven't frosted/assembled the layers yet).

Speaking of cooking, I think this week I'm going to make some Pakistani food. It's relatively inexpensive and of course, reminds me of my mom.

I've made a grocery list, and I think I'm going to make some channa masala, spicy green beans and potatoes, and keema muttar (traditionally this is done with ground beef, but my mom once made it with ground chicken and I loved it, so I've continued that tradition). Pete's coming over on Monday night, and then Jeff's coming over Tuesday night. I think if I cook once on Monday (since I won't be working that day), it'll make my life so much better on Tuesday night after my first day at Adobe. I'll make basmati rice, and some raita. And I may actually try my hand at making homemade naan. It won't be the same as if I had a tandoor, but fresh bread is always exciting. I also really want to try this recipe for cauliflower roasted over super high heat. The comments on the recipe said that it was as addictive as McDonald's french fries. The cauliflower caramelizes into this whole 'nother creature. I know it's not really Pakistani food, but I think it'll go well, and I can see how one could experiment with it by adding some spices to it.

Anyhow. YAY FOOD.
