Today has been such a freakishly nice day.

Jeff picked me up, we ran a bevy of errands, had lunch at Cafe Presse (which was happily able to do a meatless Croque Madame for Jeff). It was a beautiful day. We milled around at a poetry bookstore in Wallingford. The Farmer's Market isn't quite there yet, but it was nice just being there again and looking forward to the things to come. I deposited checks, Jeff had some original art framed. We had a brownie in a cafe. All the things that Happy are made of.

He also listened patiently to my continued obsession with menu planning. The final verdict is the tomato-basil soup, simple green salad, and homemade panko-topped mac and cheese. I think a comfort theme is nice for a Sunday supper. And even cherry pie fits. I may grill some chicken on the side, but we'll see how obstinate I'm feeling about that.

When he brought me home, Sarah was already here doing laundry and we caught up and started the pie-making process. I was out of tapioca (the thickener that Cook's Illustrated recommends) and so we walked to Safeway--which is now so dead to me. Every time I go there I leave without something I need, and generally something a lot more basic than tapioca. So we walked back and drove to Greenwood Market, which is where I am going to shop from now on. It's not quite as swanky as Ballard Market (though it's owned by the same parent company) but their produce department is fantastic and they obviously support local fare.

Safeway was always so tempting because it's walkable, but there's no point if I'm always going to have to drive somewhere in a fury after hunting through their poorly organized aisles. The difference in inventory was astounding.

And now we're ravenous and have ordered pizza that can't possibly get here fast enough. And still need to actually assemble the pies.

So, less typing more cooking!
