When I learned that my friend, Dawn--former pastry chef, was starting up a truffle business, I was pretty fucking ecstatic. And when I read the descriptions of her 7 Deadly Sins collection, I was poised to be an pre-launch customer. Of course the first day the sale went up, I was away from LJ and didn't know. I think it was sold out in 4 nanoseconds. So I wrote her and pleaded to be added to the next sale (which was going to happen when I was in Victoria with my dad.). She agreed and I sent her payment.

I just got my box, and it is every bit exciting and beautiful and awesome as I knew it would be.The box is a simple white rectangle. There's a lovely ribbon that winds around the box, secured with a Polidori Chocolates logo sticker. It just has the look and feel and heft of quality.

I opened the box, and there's a helpful key card for each chocolate. Each chocolate is nestled in its own paper and the box is lined with tissue. They look almost too good to eat--almost. Each chocolate is distinct in appearance. Large and beautifully adorned with flavor-specific markings. They're all gorgeous, but I think Envy is my favorite, with its pale green swirl.

What I really want to do is eat them ALL right now. But somehow, they're too precious for that. I think I'm going to limit myself to one a day and write a review for each flavor.

And now, here is a review of Envy:

The description reads: "key-lime flavored white chocolate center with candied ginger. It's a large, rich, dark chocolate and the center flavors are intense without overpowering. I was wary of the candied ginger, because as much as I like ginger in savory applications, I'm unsure of it in candy form. But it was fantastic. Soft and spicy and hitting the perfect complementary notes to the tartness from the key lime and the sweetness from the white chocolate. And I don't normally like white chocolate, but it was perfect here.

I am planning on buying two more boxes immediately --as soon as the next sale is announced, at least. (So go order, but wait until I've got mine in *wink*)

.....And I wrote this post earlier today and left. I hung out with Pete and went with him and the dog he's petsitting for a nice long walk. I came home, sat down to the computer, and the chocolates were just sitting there. So I decided to succumb to a second tasting. So maybe two a day. We'll see. They're really fucking good.

I think just instinctively I've gravitated towards my greatest sins, envy and lust (though I'm a champion with all of them). And I now understand why she's starting to sell boxes of only Lust. It must be a customer demand, because it is phenomenal.

Lust:

Pomegranate with dried Bing cherries. It is milk chocolate with dark stripes. Nearly golf ball sized and luscious. The flavors complement each other dizzyingly well and the cherry bits are incredible with the soft, sweet chocolate. It manages to be sweet without cloying and the tartness of the cherries comes through without puckering your mouth. I can definitely taste the pomegranate in the center which adds a rich depth. Also, I wondered if the chewiness of the dried cherries would be tough or a distraction, but they're soft and just melt away with the chocolate.

Generally I am a huge food sharer. In fact I am always sad if I can't share what I'm eating. But honestly, I have no intention of sharing these with anyone. I feel a little guilty about it. But I'm ready to buy more boxes to give away. I think these are just going to have to be mine, all mine.

I'm already wondering what the shelf life is, and how long I could store them in my fridge. Because my guess is that Dawn's going to be completely sold out around the holidays. (And yes, I know they're ridiculously far away --thank god-- but this would just make the perfect stocking stuffer for so many people I know. It's definitely special occasion chocolate.)

Okay, enough fan-wanking. Just know that when you see that Food Network special on the local Oregon chocolatier, you heard about it from me here!
