And this is where I begin a series of posts yammering about every Oscar-nominated movie I've seen. And because I am not a movie critic, nor do I have those skills, these will largely be me cooing or bitching over performances and pacing.



I was bummed when Geoffrey Rush didn't take the Golden Globe home for Best Supporting Actor. He was bloody amazing. Pete and I are going to see The Fighter weekend after next, so we'll see if I feel Christian Bale is approved for a potential steal. I keep hearing what an amazing job Bale's done, so I'm curious. I'm a huge fan of both of these guys, so.

The King's Speech was every bit as awesome as reported, and it totally met my expectations. Colin Firth really embodied the character in the most magnificent way, and his chemistry with Rush was freaking fabulous. I think Firth has a lock on the win. (He better.) And he is so easy on the eyes. THE DIMPLES. Sigh.

And while everyone did a great job, I was particularly impressed with Guy Pearce--he managed to play the character so right, weak and unsure and just enough tormented. That guy is so versatile. And it was so nice to see Helena Bonham Carter not look like Bellatrix Lestrange for once, as she seems to always these days.

I was curious if it would be uncomfortable to watch someone stutter for two hours, and it definitely made me vibrate with sympathy for Bertie, but frustration is so incredibly relatable.

I wasn't bored for a second.

I can't make myself watch all Oscar contenders (or, usually, even all the Best Picture nominations), but this one's definitely on my list. (But we'll Netflix it, so it might be a while...)
