Why is it so fucking expensive to get from Seattle to anywhere?

It usually costs me about $200 to get to LA. Just checking prices for July to fucking San Francisco--also $200.

Did you try checking student airfare rates. You probably did, but I just thought I'd ask.

Selfishly, I'm glad you're planning a trip for July because I'll be gone anyway. :)

Where are you checking? Try the discount airlines--there's no way it should cost that much. (Although, to answer your question, the reason Seattle is so much more expensive is that we're not really on the way TO anywhere, aside from Alaska, so we're not a major hub. It does suck. That said, my cousin has managed to fly round-trip to Hungary for under $500 by booking far enough in advance.)

I've gotten good rates out of Alaska Airlines, because they DO fly through Seattle so much. Also try landing in Oakland instead--although what you save by doing so might not be worth the aggravation.

I've tried Alaska, Southwest and Travelocity. They all quote $200. Do you have any resources to recommend? I am trying to fly into Oakland, makes no difference.

I worship JetBlue. Unfortunately, they haven't set up a leg from Seattle/Oakland (or LA for that matter, the bastards). But it's awesome to fly Long Beach->Oakland on them.
