ooops and ahhhhs
May. 16th, 2004 08:47 pmWhat I thought was supposed to be lunch turned out to be dinner. Todai apparently opened at 5pm for dinner, and the menu options are much more varied then. I hadn't eaten anything all day in anticipation. Oops. Was very hungry, but soon diverted by shopping insanity. We made it to Redmond Town Circle (?) It's an outdoor mall and very nice. I hadn't planned on buying anything, was mainly there for company. But somehow... all this shopping kept happening. I would walk into a store, and in 4 minutes find something I'd been needing, on sale, and available in the size and color of my choice. How? Why? What? No idea. Just grateful.
I'm very excited about my new summer sandals. The picture makes them look sort of flat, but they're NOT. Here they are on my desk. See? Not flat. Spensive at $50, but on sale from $70 at the Bon. Rockport. A lovely brown shade. I will not traipse around in my dad's worn out slippers this summer. Whoop!
Next to REI where I finally bought a Columbia polar fleece zip up (black, naturally; Judy was unable to coax me into any other color to her utter irritation). It was on sale for $30. It fits really nicely and isn't woven completely through with orange cat hair as is my old, brown pullover. Definitely an improvement.
This last purchase was just bizarre and random --at The Footzone. Merrell polar mocs, waterproof, good for hiking, etc. Red bean and vanilla. Here's a closeup. They are obscenely comfortable and well made. On sale at $50, down from $100. Whoop. My poor Sketchers are worn out and can not be worn in the rain unless I wish to slip and fall to my death. And they're not okay for hiking either. Judy and KC were bummed, because they actually wanted to buy these shoes but it wasn't available in their size. So that was sad.
Judy was in shock, because I'm not usually this spendy, but I am a slut for a good deal. And I'm tired of not having weather appropriate gear. So this was very satisfying. These were all things I had on my list, but I hadn't really expected to find them today. So yay!
Once I get a job I need to buy a waterproof jacket of some kind. I made it through last winter, but don't want to do that again. Also, randomly, I'd like a dark red tee-shirt. But I have a very, very specific shade in mind. Think Winona Ryder in Reality Bites (kind of a crappy res picture, sadly). THAT is the velvety shade I want. And not easy to find. It also has to be the right style, shape, fit, etc. I may not have a lot of things, but I can be psychotically picky about what I do want.
It's almost sad how excited I am to show Ellie and beg for her approval on my new items. I wish she could have been there with us today.
Todai was amazing. Disgustingly gluttonous, but amazing. Never had so much sushi so fast. We were starving and vigorously mawed all matter of seafood. Then came the pain and the need to walk around. And the need to remove our pants, but that's less socially acceptable in a public location.
Was very grateful not to be the one driving, squished behind a steering wheel on the way home. Collapsed in backseat.
Judy rules, in case I haven't mentioned it in the last five minutes. I love Trader Joes and introduced Judy to it a few months ago. We love their flowered tee-shirts. So Judy marched to the checkout counter yesterday and asked if she could buy one for me as a surprise. The guy told her no; they were employee only. But then seeing her disappointed puppydog look, whispered, "Aw, but hang on, I'll just snag you one from the back." It's black and long sleeved. I'm ecstatic! It's soooo cute.
Also got wonderful input on quilt and a solution. Still using the black, but going to do more normal sashing, versus the weird shit I was trying. Not thrilled to tear it apart, but will be worth it.
