all i need now is a headache...
Sep. 14th, 2004 10:42 pm...because everything else below my neck hurts.
Picked up Hobbes at 4. Was given the alarming news that his blood sugar levels are, well, alarmingly low. Normal levels should not be below 80. Hobbes was at 14. That's right. One. Four. Fourteen. Dr. Henkle commented that in spite of that, he wasn't showing any signs of distress beyond annoyance that they kept mistaking him for a furry orange pin cushion all day. She gave him a glucose IV and said to watch him in case he went into some sort of hypoglycemic attack. Fabulous.
Hurriedly dropped him off at home, with copious offers of food and pleading that he forgive me. Darted out the door to pick up Jeff for Ellen and drove through hideous traffic to SM&B. Got there early, set up steps for Judy, Jeanne and Ellie and realized I was tired before we even began.
Amanda's class was particularly brutal tonight. I hate when she gets extra-twirly and it just wears me out twice as fast, but I feel I don't get as strong a workout. Bother.
She's also gone slightly mad with the weight lifting portion. I don't know, maybe I'm particularly tired out. I'm always a little weaker whilst on the rag, so maybe that's it. I was appalled by my lack of energy and strength tonight. I just wanted to curl up on the step and watch everyone else pirouette around me. But I didn't. I slogged through the whole sadistic thing and then hobbled out of there.
Judy had requested a fried food bonanza at Cheesecake Factory. When Ellie learned that I was taking Judy out, she indignantly squawked, "How come you get the special alone dinner, and the rest of us only have the party." I said it was because I was the Best Friend for 25 years. Ellie narrowed her eyes and intoned that she was The Sister. Since Birth. Hee.
So off to Cheesecake Factory we went. We were ravenous and in quite a lot of pain. We found seating in the bar right away and didn't have to wait in the massive, bizarre, Tuesday night queue. We ate heaps. We shared an order of Tex-Mex Egg Rolls, Crab Won Tons, French Fries, and the Mile High Meatloaf Sandwich. It was gluttony, but it was heaven. I'd saved up all my Flex Points and Judy was on a "It's my BIRTHDAY WEEK; Fuck Points" thing. We ate and talked and laughed ourselves sick. And no doubt irritated people around us, because we get LOUD when we're together like this.
I also couldn't wait and gave Judy one of her presents early. I had knit her a scarf and gave it to her in the car on the way out to dinner. Judy has the skin of an infant, it's about as sensitive and soft as can be. So she often can't wear scarves because they rub her tender skin raw. So I'd used some baby blankie yarn and she put it on immediately, declaring it her favorite birthday present. My point that she hadn't seen her other birthday presents was dismissed summarily. I love Judy.
Between the post-Amanda-apocalypse and eating too fast, I actually started to shake as all the blood rushed to my stomach to digest. I have to say these moments with Judy are among the best of my life. We've been friends so damn long and have so much shared history. We talked about our scientist men, and college days, and people we both know. It was wonderful.
Dropped her off at home and drove contentedly back to my flat. Had a lovely chat with
jeff_nw, thanking him again for his gracious offer to Hobbsie-sit, but told him that I'd decided to take my kitty on the road. Especially after the low blood sugar levels, I want him near me so I can watch him like a hawk in case he has a bad reaction.
Everything aches and my legs are still a bit shaky from tonight. I'm still determined to go to Sport Yoga tomorrow night. Yay for being on the rag and feeling weak and super bloaty in spite of working out all the time. . Though I spose the galactic ton of fried food wasn't the best choice, it was still within my flex points.
Feh.
Amy has suggested I detox with some lemon infused water. Must do that tomorrow.
