Dec. 16th, 2004 11:47 pmToday was a little hectic.
My cousin K arrived from LA and was like a burst of spazzy energy. It was great. I left work early and picked her up from Sea-Tac. We ran some errands and enjoyed happy hour at Matador. Home to settle in and that's when the phone went crazy. Sarah returned my call about coming over to drop off my interview binder. Then Jeff called to help me with specifics on the job interview for tomorrow. I learned that Jeff will actually be one of my interviewers and my jaw unhinged from the rest of my face and fell off. Well. That'll be nice and surreal. Good thing I don't mind looking like an utter dork in front of Jeff.
In the middle of the call from Jeff, Stacey called. Hanging up with Jeff, I called Stacey back. In the middle of that call my aunt called. While talking to Stace, my landline rang. It was Sarah saying she was leaving to come over. Then the doorbell rang and it was UPS.
Big brother J just sent me his old Dell laptop. Which is um. Magnificent. It's a 2.4ghz P4 with 256k ram, 25gb hd and a DVD/CDRW. Ethernet. Wireless. USB ports. He even wiped it clean and did a fresh install of the OS. Happy Birthday to ME. He's upgrading and this was a very welcome gift as the old POS, generously donated to me by Stace when she upgraded from the dark ages was very slow and cranky (not that I wasn't grateful for its portability). Anyhow. I actually slid down to the floor in shock. K happily couldn't get her digital cam to work to record the moment.
Hung up with Stace when Sarah got here. And then my aunt called again. Then another aunt. And then my dad.
Tomorrow the craziness continues. I took the day off work. I'm going to get up early, continue research for the interview tomorrow. I also need to mail out Christmas cookie boxes, order the gifts planned for Stacey and Amy which I won't detail here because Amy =
trtle. I also need to stop by my bank and stop the insanity that's gone on with my transferring to a Washington account. My old account needs to be closed, but there are some complications.
Anyhow. Then off to my 3hr interview where I will attempt to fake poise and competence and not bust into nervous giggles the minute I see Jeff.
In other news, I had another one of those weird all-day headaches. It's not caffeine related and no amount of Advil makes it go away. I've learned to accept that occasionally my head will feel bad for the day, but when I go to sleep and wake up again, it'll be better. It's probably just a 24hr tumor.
I'm trying to not get my hopes up because this job is actually the epitome of what I'd like to do. Going back to my science roots and applying my tech writing skills. And also getting to use my technical background. It's only a 3-month contract with the possibility of an extension. So here's hoping my degree in Bio actually bears fruit. The nice thing is I won't have to fake enthusiasm for the position. I think the research they're involved in is fucking fascinating.
Even if I don't get it... Even if they hire someone else with more specific skills than I can offer... It'll still be nice to have had this interview and have my resume on file with them for future projects.
But um. Aieeeeeee!!!!!!
