pajama day
Feb. 21st, 2005 12:02 pmI forgot how nice it is to work from home. Mind you, I wouldn't go back to this. I like going to my office and working with other people. But today? This is just fine.
Sarah did come over and we ran errands for the better part of the day. We grocery shopped at Trader Joes and Fred Meyer. I also got an RF splitter and AV switch thingie at FM. The TiVo? Yeah baby. It's installed and working! It's... beautiful.
We also went to my favorite nursery, Swanson's, and spent a lot of money on more plants for me to eventually kill. I couldn't resist, they're so beautiful! My favorites are a West African Freesia and a tiny violet that Sarah picked out. Also some primroses and petunias, and mint and catnip. And a Monrovia with teeny tiny leaves.
We got back to my place and Sarah and I cleaned up my balcony garden, swept up the dead things, tossed them away, and planted new things. I can't wait for the weather to turn warm enough to sit out there. It makes a nice setting for a summer dinner.
Since the morning activities took longer than I expected, I frantically threw together the Marble Cheesecake Bars (from yes, again, Cooking Light--I'm loving this end of year Best of 2004 issue). Can I say that the $10 electric mixer I bought a few weeks ago was well worth the investment. This took no time. The hardest part was making the chocolate graham cracker crumbs, and Sarah did that. The bars were supposed to chill for 4 hours, but we ran out of time. I took them out of the oven, we carefully packed them in a brown shopping bag and ran out the door.
Sarah and I were invited to an L Word party. We finished last season's finale and watched this season's premiere. I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the show. It's ridiculous and the characters are both unlikely and unlikable. But it's the sort of show that's fun to watch in a snarky group. KC and Jen had gone all out. They had rolled out pizza dough and we were able to top the pizzas ourselves. I met a bunch of new women (Carrie, Ann Marie and Janette (I think)) and my good friends Jemma and Anne were there. I haven't seen them since my birthday party, so it was great to catch up. Carrie had made a spectacular spinach salad (with feta, almonds, dried cranberries). We gorged and gabbed and then KC and Jen put on the last episode of the last season. Jen whispered all the details I'd missed (I've only watched the first few episodes of season 1). I grabbed the cheesecake bars out of the freezer and they were ready--and they turned out pretty well. I don't think I'd change anything about them.
All in all a very fun night with a lot of cool women. Jemma has promised me an honorary lesbian card. Woo!
Tonight I'm making the white chicken chili again for lunches this week, and paella for dinner. All from (say it with me) Cooking Light.
