I'm not sure why I'm so moody today. It started sometime around yesterday afternoon. Sewing Ellie's quillow turned out to be a lot more complicated than I'd planned.
The sewing needle kept breaking. I went through 8 of them--literally. No, I wasn't using the wrong size needle for the project or anything. I wasn't doing anything I haven't done half a dozen times before. But it was just a nightmare. What I love about quillows is how quick and easy they are. This was just painful. I think my machine does need some dusting and oiling. I'm going to take it in to a local shop this week and have it checked out. More than the fact that sewing machine's cost about as much as a small car these days (well, the kind I'd want), this machine was a legacy from my aunt. Finally, with about 6 inches left to sew, the last needle broke, resulting in a frantic dash to JoAnn Fabric, which thank god is only a few blocks away. I got it done. I hope Ellie enjoys it.
The party was nice... it was great to see the extended-group of friends again. I had a weird upset stomach, so I decided not to drink and I didn't really eat much either, so that was good.
Woke up this morning, still irritable. I had interesting dreams, though. Sarah and I went shopping and I wanted this particular brand of shampoo (in the dream it was a funky shape, and was a Body Shop shampoo). Sarah told me I couldn't get it at the Body Shop, but had to get it at the grocery store. So we ran around looking for it. And shoot, I was so sure I'd remember the rest of it, but now it's faded. Then I dreamed an episode of CSI where the Marg Hegenberger (or whatever her last name is) fell for some guy, who turned out to be the guy who mugged her earlier in the episode. It was very detailed, and involved a swimming pool experiment with luggage. Very weird.
So I hauled myself out of bed and decided that I could mope, but I still needed to do something useful. I made a pillow for Judy out of the remaining fabric from the quillow because she really loved it and it will match her new couch (the machine worked fine today, so bizarre). I emptied and loaded the dishwasher. Wiped the kitchen counters. I'm doing laundry now and have finished tidying up my bedroom and the bed's even made. I have to straighten up the living room next.
I'm going to call Maribel again. I have a bunch of visitors coming soon, and want a thorough cleaning, but don't want to do it myself because I'm a lazy ass. One of my favorite cousins, Mo, is coming in a couple of weeks. Out of all the cousins that I grew up with, we have the most in common. Her visit will be a X-file's watchin', SiP readin', cooking interesting food, discussion filled weekend. I can't wait. She'll be here in less than two weeks! I think I'm going to have Maribel come out before she does. It takes me awhile to mess the place up, and it'll still be clean when my mom visits the following week.
I'm meeting up later with Sarah to finally go see Bride & Prejudice and have dinner.
And then another frantic week will begin. Shit, I need to get my tax stuff together for the accountant. I'm going to owe a lot of money as I had very little deducted last year from my contract work. Eeek. I made like $12K but I'll still owe like $1K because I only paid a very small amount throughout the year. What. A. Pain. The best part of this contract job through Kelly is that they take care of the tax stuff and I don't have to worry about it for next year.
Hrm. I need breakfast.
