I want to stay up. But I have to go to bed. Wah! Wah! Wah!

Bride and Prejudice was a blast. Naveen Andrews needs to never put on a shirt again. Purrowwwrrr. And I normally hate long hair, particularly curly long hair. But for Naveen? I shall gladly make an exception.

Mr. Darcy was tragically unremarkable. The story loses a lot of bite without any real social class issues. And of course, how much of the story and character development could they cram in to an hour and a half? Mr. Collins was dead-on, cringe-worthy. The Baywatch thingie was the best thing ever. The actress playing the Jane (Jai) role was perfect and I have a girl-crush on her. They also did a nice job with the Lydia and Wickham plotline, especially sans the whole military angle.

We did have one particular difference of opinion. Sarah found Mr. Darcy's behavior towards India pretty intolerable. She thought he came off as a superior American asshole (Sarah, please correct me if I'm representing you wrong). I didn't think he was that bad at all. Just exhibiting signs of stranger-in-a-strange land. Sure he was a little rude, but I didn't think he was that bad. Certainly not haughty enough as Mr. Darcy for me. And I felt that Elizabeth (or Lahlita) was overy indignant half the time. That she would just jump to the worst conclusions every time he tried to talk.

But it was colorful and fun and silly and did I mention Naveen Andrews? Dancing? Singing? Omg cuuuuuuuuuute!!

We went to Market St Grill for a fantastic dinner. I had this Dungeness crab salad (with beets, radicchio, walnuts and pear) to start with, and it was fantastic. We both had steak and the apple tart for dessert. That was an exciting meal. Worth starving the entire day for.

I'm really glad I spent the morning cleaning. It meant I got to come home and just vege around instead of guiltily eyeing the mess. Though the living room could still use some work.

As fast as last week went, I have to say--the weekend goes by even faster.

Ooh, I didn't know that Naveen Andrews was in this. Definitely makes me more interested in seeing it (must...find...time! Argh!).

He is so very cute in it, too! Worth the price of admission.

I lovedlovedloved that movie. Although I was unimpressed with Darcy, yeah. Way unimpressed.

Yes, Naveen Andrews. Oh, yes. Sawyer? Sawyer who? i am now deeply, relentlessly in love with Naveen Andrews and my only real quibble with Bride and Predjudice is that I wanted to slip out a side door and go follow HIS plot line so that I could just watch him dance and talk and eat food and walk around with his shirt unbuttoned.

I agree with your assessment of Darcy. A little superior? yeah, a little. Insensitve? Of course. But I don;t believe he was all that bad ... frankly, for an American he was positively restrained in his rudeness.

I really have to thank you--it was your rave review that inspired us to see it!

Are you in general a fan of Bollywood stuff? I grew up on it and don't really watch it now (but I do have some favorites from the 70s that I used to watch with my grandmother--very clean and full of cheesy fun).

Naveen Andrews. Oh. My. God. I would have loved to have followed him around. And not just in the movie.

And I guess I've seen such bad examples of people behaving abroad, his complaints about the computer system in the hotel just didn't come across as blasting the entire country as the frustrations of anyone trying to get work done. He was more of a stodgy work-a-holic than an elitist prick, in spite of his dragon-mommy.

I didn't think he was intolerable. I just thought he was being a a clueless bitch. His bitchiness was unintentional in this one, vs. how he is in the book. Kinda hard to do in 1.5 hours, since no time for character development and no class issues to substitute for character development.

And, honestly, having read the book (and seen the BBC/whatever productions of the book) so many times, I knew exactly how every character was going to react and Lahlita reacted to Darcy exactly the way I expected her to. Maybe that's why I didn't think she was being overly indignant. She was just doing what her character is supposed to do.

This is why I don't review movies. :)

Fair enough. And I agree--hard to really develop characters that are as complex in the book in a short, frisky movie.

I don't think I got from what you were saying last night that you thought his bitchiness was unintentional. But now that I think about it--you did say that it wasn't even that he was being an ass, it was his total lack of clue that made him an ass (or something like that, better said).

But I know we did talk about how the movie relied pretty heavily on people already knowing the story, and the character's motivations, so good point :)
