consumer whoreage
Feb. 19th, 2005 11:57 amI can't believe I'm up so early on a Saturday morning. No, silly, not now. I've been up for hours! Which is especially weird because I went to bed late.
After work last night, Jeanne and Sarah picked me up from work. I hustled out clutching my precioussss TiVo box. We set out for Patagonia, a land of spectacular outdoor gear, currently at 30-40% off. Honestly, I never thought I'd ever be able to afford Patagonia, but figured it would be fun to shop. I'm excited about my paycheck, but still don't feel I can blow $300 on a jacket.
We parked, walked in, and I didn't really find anything. Lucky for me, I was accompanied by Jeanne, who is a shopping force of nature. She whipped around the store and filled my arms with things to try. I bought the best rain jacket ever--the Hydroshed (can't find picture online!). It's beautiful and fits fantastically. And it was 30% off and very reasonable! I also bought an overpriced fleece in a dark green (also massively on sale), but it's so soft and so pretty and has some really nice detailing that I wouldn't actually shut up about. I kept scooting up to Sarah and making her admire the subtle cross-hatching pattern. She was very tolerant.
We headed for Pacific Place and walked a few blocks to The Bon. Our mission? To locate and purchase the Perfect Puma. I've wanted these shoes for 3 years and for some bizarre reason, never just went out and bought them. I recently have been whipped into a frenzy of Puma need.
Jeff: "You just want them because they have a big-cat name. Rawr." Okay, true. But they're comfy and so damn cute!
Jeanne found a pair she liked, but in the style I wanted they had weird sizes and weirder colors because the Puma sale had been going on for some time. Back to Pacific Place where Jeanne ran to Helly Hansen to return some things and Sarah and I put our names in the queue for Gordon Biersch. We were ravenous at this point. Jeanne made it back without returning anything, but getting a further 10% discount on the baby blue fleece she really wanted to keep anyway.
We all had the same food. The wedge salad which was a giant chunk of nutritionally-vacant iceberg (mmm, crunchy), with particularly good bleu cheese and bacon. And cheeseburger with garlic fries. Pointastic, but wonderful. We packed up some leftovers and saved room for apple bread pudding. I love bread pudding so damn much, and this was very good. Mmm. Food.
Afterwards, we ran back to Nordstrom to buy not-on-sale-but-only-$10-more Pumas for meeeee! I did a little dance right there on the shoe-floor. And then I said I didn't want to take them off. Sarah calmly reminded me that when we were four years old we did similar things and it was allowed. She kindly boxed up my old pair of shoes because I was too busy running around admiring them in the mirror. I skipped all the way back to the car. I love my Pumas. They cradle my feet with loooooove.
Jeanne dropped me back off at the office where I picked up my car. Sarah drove over and watched me preen in my new jacket and shoes for awhile, then we watched X-files and cooed over how nice John Doggett is. And then we ran out of episodes and there was great sadness. We're halfway through the season already.
We watched bad tv until 1:30 and Sarah went home and I went to sleep. So you see, I should have gleefully slept in this morning. But I didn't! I was awake at 8am! Why? Why? I have no idea.
But I was up!! And my friends Rob and Kelly are coming over for dinner tonight. We're going to go to Sahara for hummus and souvlaki and dolmas and then come back and watch the wonderfully silly Shirley Valentine. I want to make some apres-dinner dessert thing. But I've already done two loads of laundry, tidied up the bedroom, started the dishwasher and cleaned the bathroom! And it's not even noon!
I need breakfast and am going to sit around and figure out what to make for dessert. But part of me is thinking I might run up to the bakery and just buy something. It's a really nice bakery that has exciting things. I'm already making dessert tomorrow night for the L Word Event at KC and Jen's house.
