the weekend report
Jun. 13th, 2005 08:35 pmHad the most surreal moment ever at Portas, on Friday. Jeff asked about their soup of the day. The waiter painstakingly described the fairly common phenomenon that is lentil soup to Jeff, who patiently waited for the waiter to finish describing it and said he'd like some. The waiter then looked at him and calmly said, "We don't have any." Um... and then he laughed his crazy laugh. Weeeeeeeeeeeird. We're not sure if this is Greek humor or if he's just a nutcase. Maybe both?
After lunch, Jeff and I went back to work so I could finish prepping for a few things for Monday. I left early and ran home to change. Judy and Stace picked me up and we went to see Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It was exactly as reviewed, and it was a cute afternoon movie. We careened over to Matador afterwards for nachos and margaritas where I spectacularly blew my diet.
We also took a quick side-trip to my office so they could see it. They were very cute, and I was very paranoid, constantly shushing them. We tend to be very loud together and I didn't want to disturb the few random people working late. I particularly wanted to go back to the office because I knew Amazon would be delivering my coveted Scrubs - Season One. WHOOP! They are mine, preciouss! MINE!!!
We hung out until 2:30am at Judy's. Talking and catching up. It's been awhile since I've had such a late night. It was exciting.
Finally got back home where I promptly crashed asleep. Got up, met Judy and Stacey at the gym. My arms were still sore like a motherfucker, so I did some cardio and ten billion squats and lunges. Owie. We showered/changed and went to the Hi-Life before driving back downtown to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Angelina Jolie. Mother of GOD. When did she get so hot? The movie was perfect, brainless summer fun. It was hilarious, if a bit long in the middle. We came back to my place where we showed Judy the hilarity of Russell Peters. Eventually it was time to meet John and Ellie for dinner at Brad's Swingside. We were going to go to Pair, but the threat of UW graduation-related traffic kept us far, far away. I don't understand why anyone would order anything other than the aglio olio with Dungeness crab at Brad's.
Stace and I came back to my place, while Judy went home to get some sleep before her 5K charity event. Stace and I stayed up and talked until we passed out. We are excitedly planning a trip to Europe for next Spring and I really can't wait to use my rediscovered French skills.
Up the next morning, we walked to my cute neighborhood cafe and waited in line for an hour for some fantastic coffee and homemade pastries. Judy finished her 5K and met us at my place. More lounging, talking and eventual pursuit of lunch at Maggie Bluff's. People watching until we were actually late for the airport.
It's been like a year and a half since Stace was here last. It's so bizarre. It feels like she lives here, even though I don't see her. We've all known each other since the fucking 4th grade. It blows me away. I'm really lucky to have them. And, I'll see Stace again in less than a month at Amy's Vegas wedding!

Date: 2005-06-14 02:45 pm (UTC)I like Brad Pitt. Barring Troy and *shudder* The Mexican, I've largely enjoyed his movies. But he doesn't make me pant. And I don't think he's that mind-blowingly-hot. But Angelina Jolie... my GOD.
Have you seen it yet, or are you just preparing to go? :)
