"General Wesley Clark was wearing argyle sweaters at campaign appearances in an attempt to appeal to women voters. The retired general told a reporter that some women have 'an impression that the armed forces is a male-dominated,
hierarchical, authoritarian institution.'"
Wow. Does he know how to turn a girl on, or what?
"American researchers found that farm-raised salmon have ten times the PCB, dioxin, and pesticide contamination of wild salmon. Using EPA risk estimates, the scientists suggested that people eat no more than 110 grams, or about half a normal portion, of Maine salmon a month; Scottish salmon, among the most contaminated in the study, which analyzed fish from all over the world, should be limited to 55 grams a month."
Ick. I've got to find a Whole Foods near me.
And I randomly have a mad urge for Angel Food cake.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Musical: Life's a Show
Where there's life, there's hope
Everyday's a gift
Wishes can come true
Whistle while you work
So hard all day
To be like other girls
To fit-in in this glittering world
Garbage: You Look So Fine
You look so fine
I want to break your heart
And give you mine
You're taking me over
It's so insane
You've got me
Tethered and chained
I hear your name
And I'm falling over
A Perfect Circle: Noose
You cast your demons out
And not to pull your halo down
Around your neck and tug you off your cloud
But I'm more than just curious
How you're planning to go about
Making your amends to the dead
To the dead
Hot Chocolate: You Sexy Thing
I believe in miracles
Where you from
You sexy thing
I believe in miracles
Since you came along
You sexy thing
Skunk Anansie: Brazen (Weep)
Why don't you weep
When I hurt you?
Why don't you weep
When I cut you?
You don't bleed
And the anger builds up inside
Cherry Poppin' Daddies: Zoot Suit Riot
Who's that whisperin' in the trees?
It's two sailors and they're on leave
Pipes and chains and swingin' hands
Who's your daddy? Yes I am
Styx: Just Get Through This Night
I could be a novelist
Tell secrets never heard
Pour my soul into each and every sentence
But I just can't find the words
Still I know that you're out there
And you can relate to it all
And I could bear the cold and stormy winter
If I just get through this fall
Scott McKenzie: Like An Old Time Movie
Every time I see you
It's just because you're blue
You don't really need me
The way that I need you
Don't come on so groovy
You do better mean
You're like an old time movie
One that I've already seen
Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack: Sally's Song
I sense there's something in the wind
That feels like tragedy's at hand
And though I'd like to stand by him
Can't shake this feeling that I have
The worst is just around the bend
Rasputina: Transylvanian Concubine
Sorrow is their master
Cackling with laughter
Now, he's having just one piece of
Cakey is their make up
Catholics try to shake up
All the things that form their lives, but they're
Dead, their sighs, their songs
They know what they do is wrong
Stay here with us it's just time

Date: 2004-01-24 04:11 pm (UTC)The question seems to be whether the EPA's risk estimates are reliable, and whether the amount of contamination is truly dangerous to humans. The answer to that appears to be that nobody knows, and wild salmon is probably better for you anyway, but then there's another problem: wild salmon populations are falling due to overfishing.
Also, the same contaminants are found in other foods, notably butter, and may also be found in meats due to farmers feeding fish oil to livestock in an attempt to boost the meat's omega-3 levels.
In other words, we're all screwed.

Geez how'd those crazy women get that impression! Imagine, when 100% of the joint chiefs of staff are men, have always been men, when the only way to become a senior general is to be in a combat role, which women are banned from... And yet women persist in this mistaken impression that the armed forces is a male dominated hierarchy. Jesus, women will cook up any lunatic idea when they're on the rag!
