"President George W. Bush made his State of the Union address just one day after the Iowa caucuses and appealed to voters to reelect him so that he could continue to wage war on terror."

Yeah. Because I'm so pleased with the fabulous job he's done in the past four years.

"Russian soldiers rescued 10 tons of beer kegs that became trapped under the ice of a frozen Siberian river; after divers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations failed to dislodge the kegs, a T-72 tank saved the day."

Clearly the Russians understand what's important.

"Indonesia said that millions of chickens had died of the flu in recent weeks, and workers in Thailand were bagging live chickens and burying them in pits."

You know, not to get all PETA-psychotic, but this just pisses me off. How long can it take to kill a chicken and spare it death by mass live burial. I know there are lots of them, but fucking hell, regardless.

"Saudi Arabia's highest-ranking cleric said that women's rights are anti-Islamic, and an American diplomat in London declared that referring to the American Jewish lobby is anti-Semitic."

I not fond of religion, but nothing beats the perversion and exploitation of religion for inspiring seething rage.

"A Japanese scientist created a belly-dancing robot."

Just want to add that I love the Japanese.

Speaking of the Japanese, have you seen this hilarious thing:

And the chicken thing, here's the entire bit:

"Avian influenza was spreading across Asia; the World Health Organization said it was the largest outbreak in history. Indonesia said that millions of chickens had died of the flu in recent weeks, and workers in Thailand were bagging live chickens and burying them in pits. Laksamana.net Indonesia's agriculture minister said that his government can't afford to dispose of the dead chickens."

It really shouldn't be so hard to gas the chickens, especially as that lessens the risk of the handlers being bitter. *sigh*

Seriously! How much harder must it be to chase a freaked out chicken and bag it.

Maybe I'm taking this too personally because I'm claustrophobic and the thought of being buried alive completely freaks me out. But, grr.
