I'm far to lazy to write all of the nominees out, but they can be found listed here.
I have such love/hate for the Oscars. I want to watch it Oscar night, but also wish to be able to fast forward through the annoying dance numbers and speeches. Bleh. At least will be at an Oscar party so can simply tune out boring bits.
Reminds me of the Oscar party I went to at Afroz's. We'd generally been ignoring the show, speeches, etc. Then the Brittany Spears new 5 minute long Pepsi ad came on, and everyone immediately stopped chattering, turned to stare at her abs. Then conversation resumed as normal. It was very hive-mind-y.
Anyhow - here are my picks.
Best Picture:
Return of the King all the way. I think Peter Jackson will finally get his dues. He better get his dues.
Best Director:
Very glad Sophia Coppola got a nod for Lost in Translation, but PJ should really win this. Personally, I feel he should win this even more than the movie should win Best Picture. I don't think Clint Eastwood::Mystic River will be able to take it away from PJ. At least, I fervently hope not.
Best Actor
Bill Murray::Lost in Translation. I don't think Sean Penn can beat him out, no matter how amazing his performance was in Mystic River.
Best Supporting Actor
Tim Robbins::Mystic River is a pretty solid bet. I don't think the other guys can beat him out.
Best Actress:
Diane Keaton::Something's Gotta Give. I don't think Charlize Theron will beat her out, no matter how amazing she was. But I hope I'm wrong. I hear Theron's performance in Monster was incredible.
Best Supporting Actress
Renée Zellweger::Cold Mountain. Mortal lock. Will be shocked if otherwise.
Best Screenplay (original):
Lost in Translation
Best Screenplay (adapted):
I'm hoping for RotK but Mystic River might get it. Depends on how generous the Academy Members are feeling.
Cinematography:
I can't believe RotK isn't up for this. It's ludicrous.
I'm hoping for Cold Mountain then, though Master and Commander will probably snag it.
Film Editing, Art Direction, Makeup, Costume Design and Sound Mixing:
RotK. Not sure, but certainly would be well deserved.
Visual Effects:
I would say RotK, but think Pirates of the Caribbean might snag it.
Original Score:
RotK all the way.
Original Song:
One of the Cold Mountain ones.
Best Animated Feature Film.
Finding Nemo. Duh.
Best Foreign Language Film, Documentary Short, Documentary, Live Action Short and Animated Short
Jesus. I need to see some of these.
