Today is my oldest brother's birthday. So I called him and left a voicemail on his cell. We played phone tag for a bit until I got an answer from his OR nurse.

Nurse: Hello, this is Dr. J's phone.
Me: Oh! Hi, this is his sister, is he available?
Nurse: He's just scrubbed in for a surgery, is there a message?
Me: I'm just calling to wish him a Happy Birthday!
Nurse: Is it today??
Me: Yes!
Nurse: (chanting to entire operating room) Hey! Happy Birthday Dr. J, from your little sister!
Entire OR: *loudly in chorus* AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Someone from the Background: Hey, how old is he!?
Me: *gleeful* Very. Very. Old.
Entire OR: *mirth*

Ahhh, the joys of being a little sister. It's nice to know I can still be a total and complete pest. Hee. I was really hoping they didn't know and I could be the one to out him.

Awwww. Though for what it's worth, when J and I hang out together, other people run for earplugs. We do nothing but fiercely banter obnoxiously.

His wife usually leaves the room in disgust after the first 6 rounds.

Hah! Gee, I never saw that coming :)

My family's like that, too, really. It's really just one constant round of one-upmanship. And my poor old man just can't keep up, most of the time. For example, he tried to enter a discussion on journalism and Judy Miller the other night by saying that her reporting wasn't "in the tradition of Martha Graham." I'll leave you to dissect exactly what's wrong there :)

Hah!!

Both my sister-in-law's are very quiet. And I think they find my family's brand of affectionate spazzing very alarming.

I have to say, I love it. I can't stand people who can dish it out but can't take it, and my family has ensured that I can take it!
