It pays to ask for help, clearly! I woke up to find that [livejournal.com profile] euphrasie had sent me a link around 1AM to this. The reason I was awake is because Judy called me to tell me she'd found it, too!! You guys RULE!!

So I bought it. It turns out that there are a number of these up for sale, so I bought the cheapest (they were varied by a dollar or two here and there). Some of the fine-tuned details are different than Pottery Barn (but it's $36 compared to their $99-on-sale,$150-retail). The ad says the wood/paint has a distressed look which I don't see in the picture, but really, who cares? It's so cheap that if it's not quite perfect it doesn't matter and if I ever find the PB version down the line, I can buy that, too.

And in the meanwhile I'll have a lovely place to toss my keys!

And now, off to Jeff's for my final round of pet-sitting. Buffy gave me a bit of a scare yesterday morning. So the kitties are fed 2-3x in 20-min stages (for reasons too long to explain) and Buffy didn't come down for her second feeding. Which...not so scary, because she often does that. But I went to look for her and couldn't find her. Now, I knew she was there when I got there because I'd fed her once. I knew she hadn't gone out through the cat door because I would have seen her. I knew I didn't let her out the front door. And I've been a cat owner long enough to know that these animals have the remarkable ability to curl up into some tear in the fabric of the universe and it's impossible to find them. Hobbes has done that to me many a time. No amount of calling cajoled her out. To do my due diligence, I did run around outside, just in case she'd somehow managed to sneak out the cat door and fall off the deck.

I eventually left, knowing it was reasonable, but still feeling bad about it. I went back for my evening feeding a bit earlier, and when I found her waiting inside on the stairs I absolutely pounced her and hugged and kissed her for a very long time. She was very annoyed but bore it well. When I sat her down, she meowed indignantly for quite some time.

In other kitty-news, I made some progress with Brutus. Brutus is so gorgeous, but he's a bit reserved. Buffy and I usually snuggle, but he generally sits at a distance, posed quite perfectly, waiting for the next installment of food. He permits me to pet him, will tolerate me picking him up for a hug, but won't usually snuggle. So I try to give him his space. But last night! Last night, I fed him, and then lay down on the couch to watch tv, covering myself as always with the comforter. Brutus came right over, jumped up, and crawled right up to my face and settled himself down on my chest! I pet him and tried to be nonchalant about it while he purrred. If he could have heard my brain, he would have been deafened by the inner squeeeing going on. It was relatively short lived, maybe 10 minutes or so, but I was the happiest creature in all the land at that moment!

Just like in college when one of us would "get a Calvin" :)

I know, it was a get-out-of-jail-free card for anything! "But, I can't. I have a Calvin!"

Hee. Dogs are wonderful, but they're too easy to have their attention marked that way!

I know...and if any bi-ped moves, she's immediately up to see where the action is...so using her as an excuse to not move is useless..she'll move anyway
