So today I actually tried out the drill and it was a lot less terrifying than I'd thought it would be. Also, less powerful. I had this mental image that I would put the tip against the wall, press the trigger, and would be in danger of puncturing straight through to the outside world. Not so. I applied pressure, a little hole finally appeared, I put the screw in, drilled it the rest of the way in.

The first set worked so beautifully, I called Jeff and left a jabbery, ecstatic voicemail.

The second set was a little less tight, the third set was wobbly and has now fallen out. I think I need those drywall anchor-thingummies. Which is sad, because I thought I would be able to put up the damn curtains tonight. But tomorrow I'll hit Fred Meyer on my way home and hopefully that'll take care of it.

It was still weirdly exciting. I also finally hauled in my new stepladder from the car. RAWR.

Hee. I drilled!! I mean, it's netted me nothing so far, but I did it!!

Come on, people. GROUP HUG!!! Dogpile on Hobbsie!!!

Yay!

I know what you mean - I had that same fear of inadvertently bringing the house down with a drill, and approximately the same result.

For some reason, I always set off stud-finders. No, it's true!

Good job with the drill -- isn't that stuff fun?

Now that doesn't surprise me at all! *wink*

(and yes, it was fun!)

I would say you "definitely" need some of those dry-wall anchor thingummies. Even the plastic cone ones should work well (see my earlier Fairy Tale of the Boy and His Curtains).

Big hugs! I refrain from the dogpile on Hobbsie, though--I'll settle for some ear-scratchies. :)

I really have to thank you for telling me what they hell they were, so I can toss that word around now like a pro instead of wandering into Fred Meyer and muttering, "Um... it's plasticky thingie and um... in the wall..."

And Hobbes appreciates the scratchies! :)

Go you!!!!

DH doesn't like me to drill if he's around - he's sure I'll put a hole straight to the outside. Why, I don't know, as our drills have the same effect as yours. Maybe if the Hulk wer using them, it'd be a problem....

SPACKLE!
