I feel like a kindergartner. Every time I do something, I feel like I should get a gold star.

I can't believe the curtains are actually up. I think they look pretty good, except I need to buy more rings. I thought 5 per panel would be enough, but I think 6 would be nicer. They're also just a touch long. I can't decide if that's okay with me or not. Hemming isn't that hard, but I read somewhere that they should be a bit long. That it added elegance. Maybe they'll look elegant when I have enough clips on them and the stepladder isn't right in front of them. And the furniture in the room isn't godawful crap.

I bought drywall anchors, but I didn't end up using them. I just spackled the holes from before and moved over half an inch. Worked just fine. And, if I'm being critical, the center bracket is a little weaker, so it sags ever-so-slightly in the center. So we'll see.

As sorry as I am that Judy and KC are both sick, I'm a little relieved Kim's party's been rescheduled. That means I have both all day tomorrow and all day Sunday all to myself. Tomorrow morning I need to finish all the trim in the living room, so that on Sunday when Jeff and I pick up the shelves, I can assemble them and put them into place. I can't believe the sofa set arrives on Thursday.

I will be so incredibly happy once the office is set up. I miss my books and they're all boxed up.

Also, I talked to Jeff and he's going to pick up the packing stuff I've squirreled away for him when he's out here on Sunday. I know I'm not using the dining room for anything right now, and the rest of the boxes are collapsed under my bed, but there's something so satisfying about them going away. The more packing detritus that leaves this home, the happier I get.

I think I'm going to clean up the living room as much as possible and watch Under a Tuscan Sun, because my god Diane Lane is beautiful.

Longer is better than shorter, IMO.

I can't wait to get a place of my own so I can create a wall made entirely of books. I *think* I can do it. I can't wait to do all that decorating stuff.

And that sounds divine. I wish I had the wall space for it. My place has a remarkable dearth of wall space.

I think I should make drawings of how I want my perfect place to look. That way I can then at least try to put them into action when I get a place.

Ugh, I have this ugly feeling that I shouldn't talk too much about this stuff in case I somehow bomb it with lietya's company. No jinx! No jinx!

I think you should make drawings! I wrote out this massive plan, everything in order of priority. It completely flew out the window when I moved in and I discovered that no, the closet doors weren't a matter of life and death.

But it did give me a good sense of the style I like and I was able to just dive in and do what I wanted, instead of wondering at that late stage.

And fingers crossed for you. I hear ya about no jinxing, but GOOD LUCK!

I feel like a dork for telling you this, especially since this is going to be my very first comment to your journal, but I actually keep a little book of gold star accomplishments of things I've done around the house that I', proud of... I have trauma and damage around keeping a clean house, so I belong to this little group called Flylady, see, and it basically teaches you that if you are motivated to do stuff with stickers, then go for it!! So I say if you have some gold stars, and a To Do list... Go crazy and post that bad boy on yer fridge!!! Be proud! A happy living space is more important than most people realize.

And hi! I was pointed here by saavedra77, who I've known since he and I were roomies, and you also were mentioned fondly by greyaenigma, another old friend, in case you were curious why I'd friended you... ;)

Hi! And welcome. I think that your gold-star method is awesome. A lot of us don't give ourselves enough credit for accomplishments.

I think I will post a little list on my fridge. I know that just seeing things get crossed off bit by bit is such a great feeling!

And I agree that a happy living space is so very important. I've been a little nuttier than usual lately, and it's because everything at home has been chaotic. The more things get put away, the more cheerful I'm getting!

It'll probably take me that long to get curtains in the other areas, but the sliding glass door didn't have blinds or anything, and I was totally exposed to the street (I live one floor up from the lobby). So that fishbowl feeling got old fast.

Curtains are so hard to pick, too. They had a decent selection at Linen's N Things, though!

Yeah, that's my problem - I've never bought them before so I don't know what I want, and I'm really bad at imagining what they'd look like in the room. My bedroom walls are an earthy sand-kinda color, and I'm trying to decide between white/natural colored curtains or dark brown. Augh.
