The back, she's-a hurtin' this morning. I think it just completely stiffens up overnight, despite the action it gets from all the twisting/turning. Color me very displeased.
This was the grand weekend of getting Stuff done, and I can't complain much, because everything that was really important to me (namely, getting the furniture into place) is done. So I can slowly unpack the remaining boxes in the dining room. But it's still a bummer. Not to mention the not-fun of pain. But though it slowed me down, it didn't stop me.
Yesterday was the day of entertaining. I got up at 6:30AM to clean and move things around and grocery shop and it worked out perfectly. I made a spinach/cheddar frittata (WW recipe, too) and fresh strawberry/plum salad. Jeanne arrived first with a to-die-for potato gratin (also WW!) and then Judy arrived (with a great salad) and Julie, fresh from her walk-through on the house she and her husband, Mike, are buying. Ellie arrived with tulips. Melissa arrived bearing delicious cupcakes, and Kim bustled in last, hilarious as always.
We ate, and stitched and chatted pretty happily. It's a great group and it was so nice to finally have the space to entertain more than two people!
Everyone left by 2:30 and I ran to Swansen's to get Rob and Kelly a GC to thank them for all their help with the painting and the house stuff. They are a home improvement lifeline that I regularly depend on. And also back to the grocery store for the rolls I'd forgotten.
I came home, spun into a frenzy of cooking (spinach salad, baked ziti--I normally make penne, which I think I prefer, but I'm not sure why). Rob and Kelly arrived at 4:30, bearing a pretty orchid for me. I brought out cheese/crackers and we caught up and talked. A lot of movie discussion, since we're all movie-nuts. Then dinner. I think the ziti was flawed. It'd cooled a little bit, unfortunately (and they wouldn't let me heat up their plates!!) and it's always better the next day, so I wished I'd made it the night before. But it was okay and they were very sweet about it.
We finished with a custard fruit tart for dinner (I think it was just okay, picked it up from Safeway, wishing I'd had time to make something). I gave them their GC, under great protests from them. But they love gardening so much, especially Rob. I wanted to pick something out for them, but wasn't sure what they had, what they didn't have, and they're the experts, so I wanted them to be able to pick out something that was really right for them.
They left with hugs, kisses, and promises to see each other again very soon. I really love those guys.
Then I sat on my couch and did nothing. Eventually I shoved the food into containers and into the fridge, and tidied up the kitchen a bit, but then it was Iron Chef America and snuggling with Hobbsie.
And if the day couldn't be better, I got a call from Jeff The Magnificent! He asked about my back and day and told me about the excitement of appliance shopping (they had to buy fridges and washers and dryers oh, my), and they got it all done, yay! I have my fingers crossed for a smooth and painless move for them.
Today I get to unpack some more, and then hang out with leetle Emily! In fact, I should contact her now about what we're going to do. The house isn't finished, but at least I've finally got to where I can take a nice breather!
