the portland trip, v2

So what started out as a random thought is actually turning into a plan. I just want to go and sit in Powell's for the day. Is that so weird?

So on Saturday morning (after a quick pancake breakfast with Jeanne), I'm going to pick up Sarah (who also wants to sit in Powell's for the day) and head south.

No concrete plans, except lunch with the ever-wonderful Dawn Taylor, and um books. Lots and lots of books. And coffee. And just being somewhere different. And long car ride, long enough to listen to a lot of music.

I don't think I can do it this weekend, but some time I'd like to take a longer trip to Portland. Like, a Friday night through Sunday night or something. Really check the town out. But for now, Powell's will do.

Powell's is nice. If you don't feel like meeting, I can walk around the block, so that might help acclimatization. No pressure. Also, aren't you checking out the LUSH store, since you were talking about their stuff the other day?

How far away is the Lush store from Powell's? (It's all about Powell's).

And, no--of course we can meet. I'll be there after lunch with Dawn and will be easily recognized as the short, brown lump in the corner with the stack of books :)

Let's see -- Lush is um, 23rd and Lovejoy? ish? Powell's is 10th and Burnside, so that's about 25 blocks. They're both pretty close to the trolley line, even though I never know where to get tickets for that. (Most people think it's free, the rest of us can't even figure out where to buy tickets -- no wonder they're losing money).

OK, I'll check all the corners after I have my lunch. I'll be the friendly Hound of Tindalos, probably with leather jacket and suede hat.

Well, since there's a store in Bellevue, if I don't make it to Lush, it'll be okay. But I would really like to!

I will probably be wearing track pants and a denim jacket. Because a day at Powell's = a day of comfort.

Lush is 1.2 miles from Powell's. Not that I myself care about Lush, but FYI.

Comfort is good. Now if my head would just stop hurting.

Well, I've spent the whole day in bookstores lots of times (City Lights Books, Elliot Bay Book Co, etc--never been to Powell's, though). So it's not just you, anyway ...
