It's amazing how much more productive I am when not battling a blinding headache.
Today was nice and mellow. I got up, cooked some more, Jeff came over for lunch, we drove to Pacific Place for Lady in the Water with Pete, had coffee with Pete afterward, bought Intern Jim a GC to EB Games, drove back to my place where I loaded Jeff up with a giant sack of food (displaying rather gratuitously my penchant for food=love metaphors), we sacked out on the couch and just babbled randomly about various topics, then Jeff left and I actually did work. I finished all the work on my French instructor's Web site. I finally got through the user manual I've been trying to pick away at (in time for my 10AM meeting about it tomorrow), and the other giant MarComm project I've been blocked on. Whoosh. I just got it all done. It was somewhat startling.
Yay, productivity. How come it all came out in a burst on a Sunday night?
Then I harvested some of my herbs, did dishes, and am now going to go watch the season 4 finale for Six Feet Under. God, I love that show. I can't believe I only have one season left and then it's no more. Wah.
Lady in the Water
My god that was fun. And I mean, it wasn't a good movie, but it was an entertaining one. Only if you treated it as farce, which I'm sure it wasn't intended to be. But the fact that Jeff started snickering during the opening credits, and continued to shake with laughter just made the entire movie a glorious experience. Periodically I could even hear Pete snorting and laughing on the other side of Jeff. I have no idea if anyone is taking this movie seriously, but it was damn fun.
Some notes:
I think M. Night has talent, I do. I think he has the ability to film things beautifully, and a good sense of humor. But omfg enough with the writing/directing/producing thing. I'm beginning to think Sixth Sense was a fluke. He needs to mix it up a bit. I think he should try to direct something as part of a team. I think he needs to try directing something in another genre to get some depth and experience. I think his dialogue is weak and he needs someone to restrain his self-indulgent heavy-handedness.
I'm glad with this movie he's at least stopped the whole 'surprise ending twist' thing (as with Sixth Sense, executed flawlessly as we weren't expecting it and The Village). All of his movies (including Signs) have some great glimpses, but it's like he needs an editor or someone else overseeing the project with him to save him from himself.
And enough with the Tarantino-esque need to star in his movies. He's not as ham-fisted with his acting as Quentin, but he's not a spectacular actor, either. So enough, already!

Some notes:
- For some reason, I was completely enchanted by Paul Giamatti's performance. While I'll agree he usually has solid acting chops, I don't always enjoy or like the characters he plays (hello Sideways).
- I loved Bryce Dallas Howard in The Village (such as it was), but first of all: omfgblah to the bangs, and second of all: dude, quit with the annoying whispering voice. I couldn't take a single thing that came out of her mouth seriously.
- It's not that tough to get me to suspend my disbelief, but um, Madame Narf? Was he serious with that? And come to think of it, her name was Story? That was dumb. And when he started to go off about the evil monkeys, it was all over.
