I've only recently become addicted to this, thanks to both Pete and Jeff. I just watched from season 2, the episode titled Seven and I have much to say.
I can not get over how everyone was behaving this episode. I've seen Sam stir up some shit before, but have been impressed with how he's led a challenge, involving working with a number of other people. Sure, Marcel is a tool, but I think people overreact to him. Speaking of which --wow, watching both Sam and Ilan overreact to him all over this episode, wow. Such unprofessional behavior.
How childish is it to sit there and talk smack about someone when they're in the same room, and then explode when they mildly comment that if you have a problem with them, you should say it to their face. And then Ilan. What. The. Fuck. Over? It was such a petty and childish comment to make about cherries lowering your sex drive and how he needs to get laid, but to actually come out and say that to the dinner guests --even from a self-preservationistic standpoint, why would you make yourself look so appallingly bad? And I was annoyed at Debbie Mazar for making her racy little comment about how Marcel doesn't know enough about sex to make a truly lustful dessert. Enough with the personal fucking attacks. The dessert is not a fucking comment on his sexual prowess. SHEESH.
All that said, I am glad it was Betty that was voted off. I've found her food to be repeatedly subpar, and honestly am a little annoyed that Mike the Buffoon pulled a victory out of his ass. I think Ilan and Marcel are both creatively superior and have consistently better talents, this challenge notwithstanding, and while they could both use a little time in the Bottom Three to learn a little humility (as well as how to better hone their craft), I don't want to see them go over one mistake--especially Ilan.
I may never recover from Ilan's outbursts at Marcel tonight. I'm so disappointed in him. He's seemed to have so much more class than that all along.
My pick for top chef is still Sam. He seems to have the most consistently well prepared food and the most inventive ideas. Cliff would be a strong second, and I'll be surprised if those two don't make it to the final two. I like Elia, but I don't always find that her food is as inventive (roast chicken tonight, mushroom soup over Thanksgiving --which I totally think was ridiculous for her to win with). Mike has got to go --the sooner the better. Glad to see the end of Betty. As unhappy as I am with Ilan right now, I would like to see him in the final three.
I think true professionalism comes out when tested like this. It's not about who you like or get along with, it's being civilized to people you can't stand.
Everyone needs a timeout and to grow the fuck up a little, and most importantly, not force me to defend an annoying little tool like Marcel.
