morning after
Sep. 22nd, 2007 08:07 amThings went perfect last night. Well, almost perfect--the flan didn't make it. I cheated and made a flourless chocolate cake from my French cookbook.
The enchiladas were a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end. They were a big hit. I managed to convert the rice recipe just fine and the black beans (though gray and strange looking), tasted fine. But what doesn't taste fine after being slow cooked in bacon grease?
I'm not sure why I ignored the voice in my head that warned against using a freaking springform pan for the flan, but I did and there were many issues. I was able to upend it into a bowl and parts of it tasted pretty good, but I didn't want to serve it because it looked like slop. I think I'd feel fairly confident making it a second time. (Pete, if you're reading this and are mouthing the words 'dry run' --please imagine my withering glare.)
I love my bookclub people (colleagues from work) and it was such a nice relaxing evening. We finished the pitcher of martinis and chatted about the book (which we all loved) and discussion of the book brought up personal discussions. So interesting to find out how our childhoods were different. Then we sat down to watch the movie.
The kitchen is mostly contained, just need to cycle through the dishwasher, so it's nice to not face a galactic mess this morning.
Why am I up so early? Well, I have the honor of escorting Sarah and Henry to the vet this morning. Henry is Sarah's new kitty. He is quite perfect and I must share a picture of him because even though photos don't capture his perfectness, you guys have to see him. He is so tiny, with enormous ears, paws, legs, and tail. He's going to grow into a cougar. He's incredibly sweet natured and friendly and omg I love him.
I have to go get dressed and get out the door now, but I will post a picture later.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Date: 2007-09-22 03:15 pm (UTC)I, too, have had many occasions to lament having ignored the little voice in my head. (If only it wasn't such an annoying know-it-all!) But it does sound as if you had a good back-up plan in place. Yay, cooking smarts!
