Pearl onions are gross, except as flavoring agents. Do people actually consume them? I mean, don't get me wrong--I love onions. Cooked, thinly sliced or finely diced onions. And I suppose the occasionally thinly sliced red onion in my salad or on a burger is ok. Raw green onions are okay. But that's it.

And, I absolutely need to start coming up with a brought-from-home lunch solution. For years it was just the cafe with Jeff and then Jeff and Pete, and of course we'd also go out to random places. But I'd usually have a car, so we could go Elsewhere. And now there's no Jeff or Pete to lunch with, and I have neither the time nor inclination to keep wandering the soulless streets of Bellevue alone in search of quick variety. I get cranky with leftovers sometimes, and sandwiches bore me after a few days. So I don't know what the solution is going to be. Except perhaps to get over myself and not be so damn picky.

Also, I am really tired. And annoyed to be tired. I'm not sure if this is a caffeine lull, since I uncharacteristically pounded so much yesterday (a latte and two diet pepsis). I've felt a bit off all day. I think I could really use a 14 hour nap. Because, seriously: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

flame-charred pearl onions are delicious. You skewer them om a metal skwer -unskinned- and grill them directly next to a steak or burgers and them serve them in the skins, charred.

You squeeze them and they have turned into caramelized sweet onion goodness and pop out ther husks to be consumed. You may smear them on teh meat or just gobble them alone.

Hrm. I am dubious. Though I suppose if I can cut them up and eat them with meat, that's okay. I just don't like them wobbling about in my stews.

I don't get pearl onions, either. The only time I use them is in Beef Bourguignon, and then only out of obligation.

I use them in my Coq au Vin, too. But similarly out of obligation.
