As I said in an earlier post, there'd been a rumor that there would be some early-season berries at the market. Jeff is trying to make some headway on a project this weekend, so I knew he probably wouldn't be able to go to the market and decided to go alone.

This is the first week that it really feels like the market has arrived. There was such an enormous profusion compared to just the week before last. I couldn't stop bouncing in the very long line for strawberries. Then I meandered around, trying to buy things that I found both exciting and things I knew I had a good chance of using.

I bought:

- two pints of strawberries
- cilantro, mint, basil (and a lovely basil plant--it's time)
- asparagus
- spinach and sugar snap peas
- loaf of sourdough
- absurdly expensive yet unbelievably glorious cumin gouda and cheese crackers

I came home and decided to make a proper breakfast. K's visit reminded me of how much I enjoyed it. I can't do this on the weekdays, but why not on the weekends?

I soft-boiled two eggs, roasted some asparagus, and toasted the sourdough. I have this amazingly glorious marmalade, which I applied to my buttered toast.

It was fucking sublime.

I can't express how amazing the combination of roasted, salty asparagus is with the egg yolks. I think this is my new favorite thing. I don't have egg cups (though I may have to buy them now) so it was an incredibly, delightfully messy meal.

Oooo, that sounds awesome! And I agree, sometimes it's just like magic!
