I feel a little lame posting a second picture, but I finally have a cut slice to show, too! I should have waited and done it all at once, but I was too impetuous!

Also, my apologies for anyone who reads food_porn, as I'm going to be x-posting there today.



Also, just noticed that the bottommost piece of cake is missing so it looks like the ganache layer is the bottom layer and it isn't!

This is very much like the chocolate peanut butter cake that they serve at Papa Haydn's here in Portland, which is amazing.

In fact, the first time Patrick and I ever went out to eat together, very early in the dating thing, was to have dessert at Papa Haydn's and Pat ordered that cake. I was enjoying my marjolaine, listening to the lovely classical music, looking at the fire in the fireplace and the other lovely people sitting at the white tableclothe'd tables ... and then turned to Patrick, and saw he was scraping all the last bits of frosting and ganache off his plate and them licking it off the knife.

"What are you doing?" I said, in that bitchy oh-no-you're-not tone of voice that escapes from me more often than I like.

He just looked at me, completely unembarrassed. "It's SO GOOD." And then he stuck the blade of the butter knife in his mouth and sucked off the frosting.

And I kept dating him anyway.

That cake looks beautiful, and I don't even like peanut butter all that much.

I know, I know. Grade school was hell - my dad kept sending me off with PB & J sandwiches all the time.... :shudder:
