Three days in the making, the big pink cake is done. I wish I had a cool name for this variable recipe ([livejournal.com profile] pinkminx: give it up, I'm not calling it JeffCake!!)

So again, this is a white layer cake, with layers of pastry cream and raspberry curd. The frosting is cream cheese frosting with raspberry curd and fresh raspberry juice.

Jeff says he liked it as much as the orange cake, so I am completely satisfied!

Here are some pictures, as promised.

Nit picking: There isn't much and I can tell that my skills are developing some what. Some things I'd like to achieve in the next version: more even distribution of curd/pastry cream layers. I need to stop being so chintzy with the frosting and more evenly frost the sides. I like the cake comb, but I wish I hadn't used it on this cake, a smooth side panel would have been nicer since theres the bottom piping and top stars. Also, the top didn't end up looking quite like I'd wanted, but I was okay with that. Also, this is minor, but I was very annoyed that I wasn't careful and the cake wasn't totally centered on the cake stand. I know it's small, but I was annnnooooooyed.

Jeff, on the cake (and in consideration of his diet):

Jeff: SO! *clasping hands together* Like Iraq, we need an exit strategy to get most of the cake out of the house before I eat it!
Me: You're comparing my cake to a war ravaged land?
Jeff: Nooo... to um, our troops! Who are precious to us!
Me: *look*
Jeff: Who... we want to bring home so we can...um, feed them to people... err.

He's got nothing to worry about--the cake is going to be distributed amongst our many friends in the next couple of days. I just need to parcel it into little packages for everyone!

Jeff's already got my next assignment laid out --he wants a pomegranate version next. Oy. At least I know he doesn't expect it any time soon!

Oh, wow. *drool* That looks absolutely amazing; for all your nitpicks, it really does look like something that would belong as a showpiece in a bakery. At least the ton of work is worth it?

I'd pay $25 for that. Or more. I've just fallen prey to not one but TWO new cupcake stores in town (well, one is one town over).

TWO CUPCAKE STORES???

Meanwhile, BOTH of the places I can get scones, etc. are currently indisposed - one is moving to a new place across the street, and the other recently had a fire. I AM HAVING SCONE WITHDRAWAL!!!

Do you get scones at Starbucks? For some reason I think of you when I see scones there. LOL

I have!! There isn't one really close by, but sometimes when we go to B&N I end up getting a scone to go w/ my mocha :)
